Geo, Here we are on city water but I did live on a farm as a child for three

years and as a child I was all over the place and this was in Fort

Colorado. Then lived in Rapid City So Dakota and there was a pond that we

played

in. Never was sick as a child just normal things like measles, chicken pox.

Got polio shot stuff like that. In 1995 I was checked out by an internist

because of my voice problems and I was anemic and put on iron pills for a

while.......thats all I can think of...Flora

Did they check to see if you were low or high on Manganese did you

see the article on Manganese i sent ? If you read it it shows ways you can

get Manganese Poisoning .Through inhalation ,skin absorbtion , or digestion

so if a well is found to have eccess Manganese or you were around places

where they spray for bugs .You had a horse right ?also Manganese can be in

soil Anemia is noted as people likely to be more susseptible to Manganese

poisoning .If you read the article it states slowed movement , speech

difficulty, clumsy movements , mood swings, one article was on the MMT they

put in gasoline one was on Manganism one was on the link between Soy based

Baby formula and ADHD .If you didnt get these articles E-Mail me seperately

and ile send them to you as we cant send them to the group as Attachments

How about working in a factory, near a factory , spraying for bugs and not

using a resperator?Inhalation is suppose to be the most Dangerous form as it

doesnt go through the digestive tract .goes directly into the brain through

Blood Brain Barrier.this way the body cant break it down as is the normal

case Manganese is an essential .but in eccess is alway bad and Inhalation is

bad look up MMT ,it's used in the gas we use in our cars you inhale fumes

from cars MMT is used to " make better combustion " Look up Baby Formula using

Soy and the link to ADHD(Manganese) The links are there just need to get

them nailed down GEO

Geo, we had a well from 1965 to 1976. We had it checked periodically

and it was always okay. And we were living in the country (more like

the foothills) but not on a farm although we did raise some animals -

chickens, pigs, a calf one, had a horse etc. Also I quite often had

anemia during menstrating years (quite common for women I think).

Geo,

Yes I did live in the country for a while. We did have a well and no

it was not checked. I love the garden and to work in them and still do. Yes

when I lived in the city and young I did have anemia. Where we live now is

in the country although it does not look like it as houses are close like

the city and all of us had one well for all of the houses here. We did get

one notice to all of us that the water was not just right and I have always

said I bet this is what gave me Apparently Sporadic Spastic Paraphesis. I

love water and drink lot of it.

Now a question for you did you craw backward before you crawled forward when

you were small?

When you say ok did you get a written report showing they tested for what ?

If you look up Manganese poisoning you can see where can get it Inhalation

is the worst goes directly to the brain .It ok ? through diet ,goes through

the digestive tract ,I figure that we are or were more suseptible to it as

there are so many of us and ive heard this is rare ? there seems to be more

and more of us GEO

Gee,

I lived in a small town in IN. I grew up without indoor plumbing. I was

in Boy Scouts for 5 years and did some camping. Did a lot of fishing and

camping in the small lake for which my home town was named. It is the

farthest southern lake in IN made by the glaciers. I went to elementary

school and then to a high school 15 miles away. That means I rode a

school bus. I also drove and rode in several cars without seat belts and

did my share of riding in the back of trucks and wagons, the latter

usually during a hay ride. I played basketball and baseball in high

school. During that time I was exposed to chemicals during Chemistry

Class. The same thing happened in college. I have also gone through a

divorce, which caused me a lot of grief for several years. This marriage

produced children, which means I had sex. I wonder if any of these

things could be considered as a cause? Kids give you insanity, remember.

They can also be a great source of stress. I believe the house I grew up

in was once painted with lead based paint. Good thing that paint was

gone before we moved in. Perhaps the house would have lasted longer if

it had been repainted. I was bitten annually by at least one thousand

mosquitoes. Maybe one of them carried something that caused this. One

did carry the viral encephalitis I got in 1972. Maybe if some of us had

that, it could be considered as a factor. Has been in my case. I also

worked for a Gas company during three summers of college and was exposed

to a lot of sun and other dangerous chemicals and rays. I got blown out

of a hole by a stupid high school student who thought he could make me

finish digging out the hole once we found the gas leak. He lite a

cigaratte while I was telling him to stop. BOOM! I rolled out of the

hole unharmed, but was ready to take a shovel to him when other workers

stopped me. Wonder if any of you have experienced that? The water I

drank growing up was loaded with minerals, especially limestone. It came

from the Teays river, a large (larger than the Mississipi) underground

river that is over a mile wide and runs for hundreds of miles opposite

the flow of most rivers. Maybe several of us get our water from that

source and that may cause some of our problems. Let's get back to the

mosquitoes. I think they have no purpose on Earth except to spread

diseases. Look at my encephalitis, the West Nile virus and malaria,

among others. Maybe they are behind this. Anyone else ever been bitten

by a mosquito? May be something there. Bees are nasty, too and so are

wasps. Anyone else been stung by either? I have. Coincidence? I don't

know. Just asking.

AND JUST JOKING! It's nice to spend time looking for a cause, but let's

find a cure and from there we can look at the etiology of the sucky disease.

Please take this in the light-hearted manner in which it was written,

Mike Gray

Hi Delores Manganese poisoning go to google and write in

Manganese or Manganism .The association between the manganese and PLS is so

striking that when someone tells you we have a rare disease and you keep

seeing more people having it . you have to wander the symptoms are exactly

the same .Also if you wander why your child gets in trouble at school for

not paying attention in class maybe ADHD .Look up soy milk and ADHD

Manganese again shows up Look up MMT that they put in our gasoline again

Manganese shows up.Manganese taken in eccess is not good at all inhalation

seems to be the worst instead of going through the digestive process it goes

directly to the brain . GEO

Yes, we got a written report but don't still have any of them. We

would look at the reports to see if anything was out of the

acceptable range.

From what I read from other PlS cites there are about 500 reported

cases of PLS in the US - that seems pretty rare. I never heard of it

before and anyone I mention it to has never heard of it. Susieq

I just remember something.........we had the well water checked for many, many

things prior to our approval for foster parenting. That was a few years ago,

but the water seems the same now as it was then. I would assume they checked

the manganese then.

Hi Geo, I'm glad you are doing these surveys, I too would like to find out what

causes PLS, while we are waiting for the cure. I think Yolanda is right that

there is a cure right around the corner. I was reading the paper yesterday, and

there was a very intersting article on the front page regarding stem cell

research here in New Jersey at UMDNJ. In answer to your questions I don't have

a well. For quite a few years we used our local resevoir, which eventually

found out was contaminated with chlomines, which were by-products of chlorine

build-up. We have been using spring water for the last 15 years. I love being

outdoors working in the yard/garden,can't do much anymore. I don't live on a

farm, just the suburbs. We do have mountains and fields across the road. We

also see alot of air traffic flying in and out of 3 major airports (1 in N.J. &

2 for New York). I have noticed quite bit of soot like substance that gets on

patio furniture and porch that we didn't get years ago. I think it comes from

the jet fuel from the planes that are taking off and landing about 35 miles or

so from here. That can't be so good either, I don't know what chemicals jet

fuel or diesel fuel have in them. Yes, I have had anemia quite a few times in

my life. Keep up the good work, you never know what you may stumble upon in

your research. Take care.....Jeannie/N.J.

?i wander about Jet Fuel ?ive heard the worst time for a jet as far as

pollution is take offs and landings .What height are they at when going over

are they in an Approach in low alltitude ? Ile write you when i get back

Hey Geo, I know the planes are lowering to land, They aren't that loud as far

as noise goes, but I don't know what level they are at exactly, I can see the

windows on the plane, so it's not 35'000ft, maybe 15,000 ft. Have a good trip

to Florida & see if you can catch me a real flamingo while you are there.LOL

HI GEO,

IT'S BONNIE FROM OHIO. I DON'T WRITE TO OFTEN ANYMORE BUT I DID WANT TO ADD

MY TWO CENTS IN ON YOUR SURVEY.

DON OF COURSE WAS FIRST DX WITH PLS TO LATER BE CHANGED TO ALS.

THIS IS A SUBJECT THAT HAS BEEN DISCUSSED BEFORE. NOT WELL WATER BUT OTHER

POSSABLE CAUSES.

DON WAS RAISED ON AN ISLAND IN LAKE ERIE UNTIL HIS 30 'S. WHEN HE CAME TO

THE STATES HE WORKED ON THE TURNPIKE WITH ALL THE GASS AND DIESEL FUMES JUST

ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY FOR OHIO LIQUID DISPOSAL PLANT WHERE THEY DUMPED

EVERYTHING FROM ALL OVER THE STATES. INCLUDING THE TRASH FROM THREE MILE

ISLAND.

FROM THER HE WORKED IN A BATTERY FACTORY AND WAS EXPOSED TO LED. ALTHOUGHT

THEY WERE ALWAYS CHECKING THEM.

FROM THERE HE WORKED IN A BAKERY AND THEN A GOLF COURSE. CHEMICALS AND ALL

AS A GROUNDS KEEPER.

FROM THERE HE WORKED UNTILL HE COULDN'T ANYMORE. THERE THEY REBUILT PLASTIC

INJECTION MACHINES. SO THE OLD MACHINES CAME IN AND THEY WERE WASHED DOWN

WITH CHEMICALS. THE GUYS THAT DID THAT WORK HAD RESPRATORY MASKS. DON WAS

A JANITOR AND THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE HIM WITH ANY THING FOR PROTECTION. THEY

WOULD START WASHING WITHOUT WARNING AND HE WOULD RUN FOR THE FRONT OF THE

FACTORY TO GET AWAY FROM IT.

SOME PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT THEIR PLS STARTED FROM A TRAMA.

WELL DON HAD THAT TOO. WHILE WORKING ON THE TURNPIKE HE HAD REPAIRED A

TRUCK TIRE. WHEN HE WAS MOUNTING IT ON THE TRUCK IT

EXPLODED AND THE PRESSURE THREW HIM 30 FEET AND THE SNAP RING THAT WAS

ESTAMATED AT 90MPH HIT HIM. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR IT BEING A VERY COLD

WINTER NIGHT IT WOULD HAVE KILLED HIM. HE HAD ENOUGH LAYERS OF CLOTHING

THAT IT CUT THROUGH ALL 5 LAYERS OF WARM CLOTHING AND JUST SKINNED HIS

BELLY. OTHER WISE IT WOULD HAVE CUT HIM IN TWO. IT CUT HIS LEGS TO THE

BONE AND BROKE HIS FOOT UP PRETTY GOOD. (IT DID DO SOME INTERNAL INJURIES)

NOW IF WE COULD TRACK THIS DOWN AND PROVE WHICH EXPOSURE OR ACCIDENT CAUSED

HIS ALS WE COULD HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEEDED EXCEPT FOR HEALTH.

GEO, I WISH YOU LUCK IN YOUR HUNT. THERE ARE SO MANY POSSABILITIES THAT WE

HAVE LOOKED AT OVER THE YEARS AND NO ONE HAS MADE ANY CONNECTION.

I DO READ WHAT YOU POST. WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS PUSH FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH.

I VOTED FOR THIS PRESIDENT BUT I'LL BE DARN IF I WILL GIVE HIM MY SUPPORT

NOW AND I HAVE TOLD THE SURVEYERS ABOUT IT TOO. NOT TO MENTION CONGRESSMEN.

SORRY IF THAT IS TO POLITICAL FOR THE GROUP BUT IT IS AN HONEST STATEMENT.

LOVE

BONNIE

I HAVE MY ROPE TIED AND HANGING ON.
