We didnt get turned down, but they base Hope's checks on Lane's income. So some

months she doesnt get a check at all, some months it's very small (like less

than $100). But because she gets SSI she also got MA automatically. That coves

everything our private insurance doesnt which helps out a lot.

If you get denied SSI and your son has a Dx in writing, you might still be able

to get MA. It varies by state, but here in PA parents have gone to public

assistance with medical bills for thier kids, a copy of the Dx, and the denial

letter from SSI and they get MA. Here they also take any medical bills you owe

and deduct them from your income, so some people get under the income limit that

way.

I wrote a while ago about people's experience getting SSI. We're

currently in the process of applying. We have an appointment

scheduled for Nov 4th. Can anyone tell me if they've had the

experience of being turned down because their income is too high? The

person at the desk asked if we knew there were income guidelines. I

didn't want to get into it with her but rather go for the interview.

Our insurance will not pay for Speech, OT or PT. Right now it's all

coming out of pocket and it's killing us. The school district has

been good about providing services (speech). But our son needs the

additonal day at Mayo clinic and he gets OT and PT there as well.

Are there other funding sources people know about? We won't qualify

for MA due to income.

ish Rite does free speech therapy for kids who aren't Kindergarten-age yet.

I do not know the contact information but someone on here probably does.

SSI is income based and a pain to work with. My daughter has been in it for a

couple of years now but we are seeking to get off of it shortly because in the

long run, it isn't worth it. You have to be in poverty to qualify so if you

want to get ahead in life, you have to make more than they will allow.

Good luck,

Tammy

, it may be Medical Assistance you are looking for. Your child will

qualify, as he has no income, as long as the disability is medically documented.

You'll have some forms to fill out, and need a letter or statement from his

treating physicians and therapists. It should cover the speech and OT that's

needed, that the school district is not providing.
