Guest guest
Thanks, - Amazingly, Josh is already trying to accomodate the inability to use the right hand except he can't quite get the hang of squeezing a crayon or pencil with the available fingers against the cast to brace it or of using the left to pull himself up when he's sitting on the floor. And, he doesn't have a good mechanism when he sits down on the floor - kind of plops down all the time - so whenever he sits down now he makes a really loud " clunk " when the cast hits the floor. Blue cast (of course) - he was pretty good while it was going on and the young woman who did it was very quick and efficient so the crying was at a minimum. Unfortunately, soccer is now out for the 4 weeks the cast is on (AARRGGHH!) although his coach said to keep coming to practice/games and he'll see if there is sideline stuff Josh can do. DH got hit last night - Josh wanted more graham crackers and dh said no - wham! right down on dh's arm! I went out and bought some quilt batting and a piece of cool material - will at least soften the blows if he does hit! His speech path said she thought he was trying to tell them - she said he was holding his hand and did cry (more than his teacher said he did) but they weren't " getting it. " AARRGGHH!! We picked up bath cloths (pre-moistened/soaped) since he can't take baths or showers for awhile (doc said even with 15 plastic bags over it, the cast would still get wet - not good), we temporarily went back to his spill-proof cup until he can get the hang of holding the cup with his left hand (not doing too badly), but don't know what to do about using the left hand to eat - that's a toughy! Any suggestions? Sherry
Guest guest
hey sherry, sounds like he's adjusting nicely, now he has a better weapon for defensive purposes. let's just join him up for the X-men. lol. eating well depending on the food let him eat with his fingers or feed him for now if its messy. I sure he'll loove the extra attention. poor Josh and poor you and dh. please keep me posted. chris sherry silvern <srsilvern@...> wrote: Thanks, - Amazingly, Josh is already trying to accomodate the inability to use the right hand except he can't quite get the hang of squeezing a crayon or pencil with the available fingers against the cast to brace it or of using the left to pull himself up when he's sitting on the floor. Guest guest
hi, chris - we got a note home from school yesterday about the eating with the cast on - amazingly, he can manipulate his spoon to eat applesauce but, hhhhmmm, can't seem to manage it for the stuffed squash I put in his lunch! The stinker! As for the weapon - I got it right in the head yesterday (still don't know why he hit me - could have been frustration in not being able to pick something up with his right hand) and had to run to the Lenscrafters last night to get my glasses fixed. AARRGGHH! We decided maybe for Halloween (although the cast will be off by then, I hope!) he'll go as Hellboy (only we'll call him Heckboy)! LOL! Guest guest
So funny...heck boy. listen gave his first booboo to another child yesterday. JOY I don't know if I should make him a bad guy or good guy for Halloween. \ So glad he's eating ok. So smart he is. Maybe you should wear contacts until heckboy goes back to . hehe chris sherry silvern <srsilvern@...> wrote: hi, chris - we got a note home from school yesterday about the eating with the cast on - amazingly, he can manipulate his spoon to eat applesauce but, hhhhmmm, can't seem to manage it for the stuffed squash I put in his lunch! Guest guest
hope the booboo to the other kid wasn't serious - we've had out share of those! I've thought of contacts rather than my glasses but, hhhmmm, I could just imagine crawling around on the floor with the dogs, cat, and Josh crawling right after me looking for a lost contact! don't know which is worse - ben-out-of-shape glasses or lost contacts, hhhmmm.
