Guest guest
Annie, As Connie said, the typical dose is either 3.0 or 4.5 mg per night. The tablets do come in 50 mg as your doctor prescribed and 99% of people get capsules made up with 3.0 or 4.5 mg in each by a compounding chemist who has the equipment necessary to measure out the minuscule quantities involved (even the 50mg tablets are mainly filler). A popular choice now seems to be 1.5 mg capsules so that you can easily vary the dose from 3.0 mg (2 capsules) to 4.5 mg (3 capsules) as desired (or drop to 1.5 mg/day or go up to 6.0 mg per day). If you can't easily find a compounding chemist then you can fairly easily manage for yourself as some people do. Firstly cut the tablet exactly in half (this process assumes that the machine that mixes the naltrexone with the filler to make the tablet gets a very even mix). Now take one of the cut halves (25 mg) and crush it as finely as possible. 25 mg divided by 3.0 is just over 8, so this will give us 8 days of just over 3.0 mg per day, which is probably the best starting point. Put the other half of the tablet back in the packet or somewhere safe. Next, get a container which you can seal and shake, or at least stir, and which has measurements on it and fill it with water to a level which is a multiple of 8 eg. 800 ml, or 8 fl oz or 16 fl oz etc. If it is 800 ml then you drink 100 ml per day, if 8 fl oz total then 1 fl oz per day etc.. Put all the crushed up powder from the first half of the tablet in and shake/stir thoroughly, then before it has a chance to settle drink one day's worth eg. 100 ml or 1 fl oz etc depending on how much water you originally put in. Put the remainder of the mix in the refrigerator. Next night, get the mix out and shake/stir again and drink the correct amount again i.e. 1/8 of the original total eg. 100 ml or 1 fl oz etc.. Repeat for a total of 8 nights at which point all the mix should be gone. When it has get the other half of the tablet out, crush it up and repeat the process to give the next 8 nights of (just over 3.0 mg per night). Important points: 1. Naltrexone does NOT dissolve in water so it is very important to shake or stir thoroughly and drink the required amount before it settles. 2. It will probably taste bitter if you only use a small amount of water. 3. According to the reference book a pharmacist on the lowdosenaltrexone group has, naltrexone will remain stable for at least several weeks in water so keeping it in the fridge for 8 days shouldn't be a problem. This can be varied to suit whatever dose you like. Some people even use a syringe to accurately measure the required amount for each evening. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Annie, Yep, I've been on 3.0 mg for probably about 2 months now. The first couple of nights I did notice as others had reported that I had more vivid dreams and probably didn't sleep quite as well, though not badly. No headaches or lightheadedness. Did notice a difference in my walking ability as I reported here back then and had about a dozen good days in a row, whereas normally I'd only have a good day maybe once or twice per week. A good day to me is one where everything happens relatively easily given my physical condition eg when I walk (have used a frame for about 6 or 7 yrs) I only rarely drag/catch my toes instead of every step or every second step and can keep up with a 'temporarily' able person walking at about 2/3 normal pace. I certainly experienced extra stiffness, but not to a great extent. I then had a few weeks of mixed days, more like pre LDN, although on average was walking better than back then. However, a couple of times the extra stiffness was quite noticeable so once per week or so I skipped the LDN. On the lowdosenaltrexone group there are a few people who say that they really notice if they skip a day because they feel worse, but for me it was the opposite! It seemed as though maybe it gave my body a chance to clear an excess of LDN (that is a total layman's guess at what was happening and I may well be talking through the top of my head) and let the stiffness subside a bit. With the extra stiffness gone my body was definitely working better than pre LDN. Now, here's the thing (do I sound like Caruso in CSI Miami?) - since then I have not skipped a day again in over 2 weeks yet now feel LESS stiff than even pre LDN and am walking well (by my standards). I sometimes find myself doing something and then thinking to myself that normally I would have had to concentrate much harder to make it happen (and not fall over for example). At this stage I would summarise my experiences with LDN as no miracles have occurred but definitely positive. Even my typing is happening more easily and not only have I lost the extra stiffness, but I actually feel less stiff than pre LDN! All good news! *:-)* Next time I think I will see if I can just get the 50 mg tables and divide them up myself as I described because that way they are covered under the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) so should cost a maximum of $A27. Buying them as 3.0 mg capsules cost me $A170 for 100 tablets (about $US120), not so much I believe because of the compounding but because as 3.0 mg capsules they can't come under the PBS. Then I found out that my health fund won't refund me anything for them as they should be under the PBS - sort of a catch 22........... If you can't find a compounding pharmacy you should try contacting Irmat Pharmacy or Skip's Pharmacy as they will send it to you as many on the lowdosenaltraxone Yahoo group say they have done. The contact info is on the LDN homepage www.lowdosenaltrexone.org and as it also explains there, there is good reason to go through them as they know what they are doing and get it correct whereas apparently the FDA have found a significant error rate in the LDN made up at various random pharmacies. This can lead to the LDN not giving the benefits it should, or even worse having an adverse affect. Guest guest
Hi , Are you still taking the creatine as well as the LDN. Arlene
Guest guest
Hi Arlene, No, I'm not or at least not regularly As I take so many vitamins at breakfast and tea I was finding in the morning that just opening so many containers to get out what I needed was making me late for work, so now I just tip out a week or so worth of vitamins into a plastic lunch container. Therefore I keep forgetting about taking creatine. riddlea@... wrote: > Hi , > > Are you still taking the creatine as well as the LDN. > Arlene >
