What I've been going through! <UGH>

I am going to make this as quick as I can, but yet informative so

you'll all know what's been going on with me. I am in a great deal of

pain, so I may have to finish this later, but we'll see how it

goes...........

As you all know, for the past year I have been experiencing clear

fluid draining from my nose every time I would bend over, it would

just gush out everywhere and sometimes it would only drip. My Dr. said

that I was losing spinal fluid and sent me to Indianpolis on Monday of

last week to have tests done to find the leaks. This is where they

inserted a nuclear dye into my spinal cord. Instead of them making me

lay flat for 6-8 hours after the procedure, they had me up and down

for approx. 6 hours checking to see where the leaks were in my spinal

cord. Well, the dye was not flowing up my spinal cord like it was

supposed too, so they laid me on a bed and put me on my head for 45

minutes. I began having excruciating headaches that evening. Tuesday

things progressively got worse. By Wednesday I was vomiting and the

headaches were unbearable and I was dehydrating and running a fever. I

ended up in the ER Wednesday evening where my husband said I lay for 6

hours with nothing being done and was finally admitted that night

around midnight. I was hooked up to a morphine pump while they tried

to track down my Dr. with no success. They finally found me a

different Dr. and when she came up to my room Thursday evening and saw

my condition, she put out a STAT order for me to get down to the OR

immediately for another procedure where they inject half a pint of my

own blood back into my spinal cord. What had happened, was during the

previous testing in Indianapolis, I began losing spinal fluid from

where they took the needle out of my spinal cord and the fluid and

nuclear dye were spreading throughout my body as well as my brain

causing the excruciating headaches and sickness, so by going back in

and injecting my own blood back into the spinal cord, the blood was

patching any holes that was left from the previous procedure. 15 hours

later, the headache was finally gone, but now I suffer with severe

pain in my low back traveling down my legs from them inserting needles

into my spinal cord 2 times within 4 days. Oh...and I was completely

wide awake and felt EVERYTHING during both procedures!

The headaches have started coming back and my Neurologist told me

yesterday that it was most likely because of my muscles stiffening up

from the pain in my back and causing tension headaches. I can only

hope she is right! She said that the pain that I am going through is

NOT common, but because of the trauma my body has been through, it is

going to take longer for me to recuperate. The Dr. who did the last

procedure said that I would most likely have to go through this pain

for several weeks because I had lost so much spinal fluid and he had

to replenish it with so much of my blood.

I returned home from the hospital Friday evening and am now trying to

recuperate. My new life style is traveling from the bed to the couch,

clutching my Lortab bottle! What a life! But this too shall pass.

As for the clear fluid coming from my nose, I have not had it since

I've been on Armour Thyroid, which has been a couple of weeks! So it's

beginning to look like it's all due to my Thyroid problems and all

this mess that I've been going through, was done in vain! Oh....and

speaking of vain, the vein where they put the IV in at the ER, became

infected and I left the hospital with a red streak going up my arm.

They did nothing about it, and that arm is in a lot of pain from my

wrist all the way up past my elbow. They said that if it got worse, to

call them. So far it's not worse, but it's not better either.

The results from the nuclear dye test came back negative and they did

not find any leaks. The only leak I had, was the one caused from them

doing the test.

So that's what's been up with me and why I have not been around. As

for my thyroid, I think the Armour is doing it's job well! YEAH! I

have all this energy and can't doing anything with it!...LOL I try to

get up and do a little around the house and end up over doing it, so

I'm TRYING to take it easy!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Blessings,

Rhonda
