Guest guest
Pam, That's great that Connor will nap without them. That's a start, I think. My daughter was having such a hard time going for naps, and Dr. Herzenberg had said she probably didn't need to wear them for naptime anymore, so I told her she didn't have to wear them at naptime, but she was still unable to settle down even without them on. Needless to say, she hasn't been napping lately...It's been a tough adjustment. I'm hoping she'll be done with the shoes soon...It seems like she had a mild case. Also, she's on the last size shoes (8) and she never tolerated her toes sticking out. Lately she's been complaining about the shoes and her sleeping hasn't been that great. Usually an indicator that they're uncomfortable... I'm thinking that going to sleep won't be a problem because she's so exhausted she just crashes. I'm more concerned about her waking in the night and wanting them back on. Unfortunately, we're going to find out tonight because just before bath time she whacked her clubfoot on a metal closet door and couldn't put any weight on it. It was a little swollen, and she was so distraught that we didn't put her shoes on. The doctor said we could wait and see what it's like in the morning.... Has anyone else's child injured their clubfoot and have to have it checked out? did you go to the er, the pediatrician or the pediatric orthopedist? I vaguely remember someone talking about a child who wouldn't walk for several days, but I can't remember how it was resolved... Thanks in advance for any insight you can give! Joanne, I never thought I would say this, but I think that may be a minor problem for also. He is ready to have his shoes on at bedtime (if he is ready to go to bed:). He does nap in the afternoon without them though. The thought of those feet without those shoes scares me! How much longer do you think Zoe will be in them? Guest guest
, Thanks so much for responding! What a wonderful story about the " bars " . Lately Zoe's been complaining about wearing the shoes. then I made the mistake of saying she's " almost done " , so she's been complaining more...I'm sure once I tell her she can't wear them anymore, she'll want to! I'm going to make sure that the doctor tells her directly that she doesn't have to wear them anymore. We're already planning a " Bye Bye Night Night Shoe Party " complete with a night night shoe cake to celebrate this momentous occasion! It's amazing how particular they get about routine things. Warm regards, Joanne Message: 6 Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 04:12:07 -0000 Subject: Re: adjusting to life without the bar? Hi, Joanne! I can't help, exactly, because is still in the FAB. She's 3 years and 7 months, and will be wearing it till age 4. As it sounds it must be the case with Zoe, she is one who tolerates it well. We never had a problem adjusting at the beginning, no blisters, no sleepless nights, and continuing with it has been easy; it's just a part of her night routine. She has, from time to time, asked for it, or brought it to me, and helped me put it on, especially when she was very tired. She's particular about how it's done.. A pet peeve of hers is if I miss an eyehole.. she makes me redo it. =-) I do have to say, though, that recently.. within the last month or so.. I'm getting more resistance from her than ever before. (Of course I get resistance about other things that are non-negotiable too.. such as putting her in her car seat, or not running away from me in parking lots!) It's still only occasional, but, as she's gotten older and more articulate, she is starting to argue with me. " I'm too old for bars! No, not my bars! " (for some reason that's her name for it.) And, in the morning, " Can I take my bars off now? " She sometimes can undo the straps and laces herself, or gets her sister to do it. But she's never taken it off when she wasn't supposed to, and still has never missed a night. So.. maybe at one point there would've been an adjustment for us, but I don't think there will be now. We are definitely sticking to continuing to age 4 anyway. Probably the one facing the biggest adjustment will be ME! (Sometimes I've thought about adding up how many times I've tied those shoes.. no doubt a head-spinning number. =) Sorry to go on so long.. guess it's something that's been on my mind as well! Best wishes, and 6/29/00, left cf _________________________________________________________________ Find high-speed ‘net deals — comparison-shop your local providers here. https://broadband.msn.com
Guest guest
Theresa, Thanks so much for sharing!! Very cute story.... I'm starting to feel better about " the end " . I can't remember...did Jakob have a " mild " , " moderate " , or " severe " case? Perhaps that could be a poll question... Did your doctor rate the child's foot as mild, moderate, severe, other, no rating. We did not receive a rating, but based on what I've learned, it seems to be mild... Zoe still couldn't stand on her foot this morning. It was swollen and hot to the touch. We did end up going to the doctor today. (Can you believe they had Sunday hours?!) He reassured us that it was just a " contusion " and that she should be walking by tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest... she does seem a lot better, but she's still afraid to try and stand on it. Since there's still some swelling and tenderness, we probably won't put the shoes on again tonight, but I'm concerned that after 2 nights of freedom we're going to get a battle to get the shoes back on. I keep reiterating that when her foot is better, she'll need to put the shoes back on... Thanks again, Joanne W. Joanne, Jakob didn't really complain about wearing his brace, but for a couple months before he stopped wearing it, he'd tell us, " this foot doesn't want to go in. It's dancing. " Once it was on though, he didn't complain at all and wore it peacefully. He stopped wearing the DBB in September 2001 (at about 3 years 7 months, so the same age A.'s daughter is now). We kept telling him that if he didn't want to wear it anymore, he'd have to tell Dr. Weinstein he didn't want to wear it anymore. For us, the transition to not wearing the DBB was smooth. He asked a few times if he had to wear his brace (I think just to make sure we wouldn't change our minds), but he slept fine without it. He has asked a few times to try it on even as recently as within the last month. _________________________________________________________________ Get a FREE online virus check for your PC here, from McAfee. http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963
Guest guest
I am always so afraid that is going to hurt one of his feet! I've often wondered who would I take him to. Hopefully I won't have to answer that question! How is Zoe doing? Pam and (8-12-01) > Theresa, > > Thanks so much for sharing!! Very cute story.... I'm starting to feel better > about " the end " .
