Guest guest Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Rodrigo, Good luck with your move and your new job. You have been through a lot, so making some changes like moving out on your own is a positive step to moving forward and getting on with living. I lived with my parents for awhile after I got a divorce. Even though it helped a lot financially to live with them, getting out on my own was the best thing I could have done for myself mentally. I wish you all the best. Guest guest Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Hello Kandyis! Glad you joined this group! I am a chronic pain patient - having to take LOTS of med each day. I can't do much, but I try to not eat too much. I am 33 years old. I was put on a whole series of trial drugs several years ago, and gave me no help, just cold sweating and weight gain. I'm still now trying to get the last pounds off! It can be done - even if you are in pain. That I KNOW!!!! And it doesn't take much effort on the exercising part. You could get one of the " Ab belts " that can help you even if you are on the sofa! Feel free to post me privately if you wish: chayton@... Good luck, and hang in there. The comfort food isn't comfort - thought I know how you feel!!! Guest guest Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Kandyis, Hi. I'm , 20 years old with fibromyalgia, anxiety, panic disorder, and depression. I know how impossible it can seem to deal with illness, and trying to lose weight. But it can be done. Start off really, really slow exercising. Go outside, walk to your neighbor's house, walk home. Then do some simple stretching. The next day, do it again. When you know you aren't on the verge of relapsing, walk two houses down the street. Just keep adding on as slowly as you need to. At the same time, start cutting out junk food. You don't have to do it instantly, start slowly. If you have a favorite fruit, find all the different things you can do with it. Use a juicer, make a salad, make a smoothie, the possibilities are endless. Sorry if some of this is stuff you already know, once I start writing, it's hard to stop. Also, try finding another doctor. Maybe go to physical therapy, if your insurance will pay for it. Good luck, I know you really need it. Oh yeah, are you on meds for panic? Once I went on meds for panic and depression, I was able to cope with pain better. And anxiety attacks cause shortness of breath, which I'm sure you know. But if you can cope with the anxiety better, it will probably help the asthma. hi i have fibromyalgia thryoid asthma i am on 10 mg predisone or 20 on bad days then i have panic and anxiety problems the doctor wont even help me with the weight says i am to sick i know i am dont need to be told alot i am 46 years old kandyis Quote

Guest guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 He said I was hypo because that's what happens when you get thyroiditis. You are hyper for awhile and then go hypo. Sometimes you can go off the medication and sometimes you can't, he said. He based this on the fact that my TSH was too high. I have been on the alternating dosages for the past month now. He hasn't ever mentioned my free T3 and T4 levels, but he has tested me for them and he said they were normal. I don't have the latest test results yet, he hasn't mailed them to me yet. But everytime he's had them tested he said they were in a normal range. I had my TSH tested in December when I was taking .25 of the Synthroid and it came back as 3.19. He said that was too high, so he increased me to 50. Left me there for two weeks, which was the end of December to the beginning of January, which is when I experienced an immediate improvement in sleep, but I was still tapering off the ativan at the time. I was tested again around the 7th of January and my TSH was 2.04. He wanted me to increase to 75 and then left me there for another two weeks. Then I was tested again and at 2.00. About a week after being on the 75, I started to really have trouble sleeping. So he said I could alternate from 50 and 75, but he didn't want me to go any lower because I wanted to get pregnant and he said it wasn't safe because when you're pregnant, apparently you need to increase your dosage. So...I started alternating at that point and my sleep got a little better, but it's still not completely normal. Plus now I get heart palpitations at times, etc. I actually notice that I get those symptoms on days I take 75 in the morning instead of 50. I gave it three weeks on the alternating and then I got tested again. Then my TSH was 1.5, which he said was perfect and to stay exactly as I am. That was earlier in the week so I've been on the alternating dosages for about a month now. I hope this helps! Thanks! Guest guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 You also may want to try splitting your pills... sometimes even with armour I need to take my dosage in 1/2 tablet forms on my really hypo feeling days because for some reason my body absorbs it better. It keeps my body from trying to take in to much too quickly. Also, see if you can find out and get copies of your lab results. Eventhough our bloodwork will show up in the normal range, it is really important to know that the range is just that... a range and doesn't work well for everyone. It does sound like your doctor cares more than a few other docs I've heard of. Which mean that they may be willing to listen a bit closer. The reason why your frees are so important is that they tell you what your body is converting. You may be getting enough hormone but may not be converting it properly from storage to active, etc. Your TSH is a pituitary hormone and is not a thyroid hormone. It helps tell your pituitary/thyroid how much hormone to release and when.. so needless to say, if you are hypo/hyper, it will show. The t4, t3, free t4, free t3 are all thyroid hormones and are what your doctor should base your dosage off of. Also, if you don't take a multivitamin (I can't remember) you will want to start doing that. Make sure it comes with iron and selenium (definitely get it with iron). Thyroid patients for some reason tend to run on the anemic side occasionally. Another thing you will want to do is take a b complex supplement. Not an herby one (as you may be allergic thus negating the point) but the straight mineral supplements. I take a liquid form so I can swallow it better. I can sooooo tell a difference when I don't take my vitamins. Hopefully that will help you. Remember, we often want to know our doctors are doing everything they can to treat us, however they are fallible and often make mistakes. Show up at your next appointment with a list of symptoms you have daily (after 2+ years that is what made my doc listen to me). Also bring your basal body temperature reading (you can search the message archives for a link I posted a while back on that). Basal body temp will help you show your doc when your dosage is most optimal and help you see if you are still hypo. Make sure you take your pulse reading to. Take it when you first wake up in the morning, before you do anything else. Track your basal and pulse for a week straight then show your doc. Also keep a list of your symptoms, when they happen, and what you eat. And don't skip breakfast.. even if you have something small it will help fuel your body so your adrenal glands don't have as much to do when they first wake up. Don't drink caffeine (coffee or other high caffeine beverages for breakfast either) they will really screw you up. If you want something carbonated for breakfast, drink carbonated fruit juice. Print out articles if you have to also. The thyroid is an amazing gland that has so much to do with the body's function that doctors haven't realized yet, but we need it working, to really have a good quality of life. Make sure you get the tsh, t3, t4, free t3, free t4 levels all checked at the same time. Because they will vary from testing to testing, it is good to have them checked to make sure. When you get your levels, make sure you post the ranges to. Something else you may want to look into, is that the symptoms you mentioned also are indicative that your adrenal glands are not functioning properly. When you are hypo for a long period of time, your adrenal glands try to pick up the slack of your body and it works until they start to have problems to (this can work vise versa as well... no one is really sure if the adrenals overtax the thyroid or if the thyroid overtaxes the adrenals). All of those symptoms I had when I was really really adrenally kaput. It is fixable if you avoid caffeine and all adrenal jump starters as well as the high fructose corn syrup foods. They really pummel your adrenals. You can take an adrenal supplement later on (have your doc test your cortisol & dhea-s levels first) and that will help level you out. When you are adrenally defficient, your body also has worse reactions to allergic substances. It's really really common after switching around of the dosage that your adrenals don't sync up properly with your thyroid. I would recommend a dessicated adrenal hormone (not usually what you find in stores... they just offer herbs and b complex, you may be allergic to those herbs.. you never know). I don't know if your doc has told you this or not but you also may be having allergic reactions. When you have allergic reactions to something with an autoimmune problem, especially thyroid related, it's not just runny noses and itchy eyes.... it can be weeks of hormone fluctuations and setbacks. Not good when you are trying to 'nail' your dosage down. The best way to fix this is to have allergy tests done and figure out if you are allergic to anything. Everyone is probably getting tired of me bringing that up but I swear, once you see how much better your body can adjust without having to 'fight' all the time, you feel much better, and you heal quicker. The reason we have adrenal glands are to combat allergic reactions with cortisol/steroid production and for adrenaline in fight/flight responses. Adrenal glands also help regulate our internal clocks. Terrible sleep is a symptom. Something I have also noticed from personal experience is that even when I don't have a physical reaction to an allergy substance, I will get emotional a few hours later... that is a result of my adrenal hormones being off kilter in my body... my levels show up in the normal range, but I can tell immensely when it happens. Do any of you have that happen also?? Good luck and I hope this helps. Re: Re: HI He said I was hypo because that's what happens whenyou get thyroiditis. You are hyper for awhile and thengo hypo.
