I'm curious why he has to wear them all day long. Since Dr. P. encourages

babies to go barefoot while out of the DBB and he's walking now why bother

with the shoes? I am under the impression that walking by itself is good

for the foot. I seriously doubt that, even if I was going with having baby

wear the boots during the day that I'd let him go outside in the mud in

them. How long is he going to be outside anyway? If the rest of us can

have babies out of any sort of shoe all day long I would imagine an hour or

so here and there won't make enough difference to buy him special outside

shoes. I would absolutely just give him a pair of regular play shoes and

leave it at that for outside play time. I certainly wouldn't buy a

separate pair of straight last shoes for playing outside.

Thanks for the reply--you do have a point. I think I will have to make

another call into the doc and see if I can speak with him rather than

the nurse. Our doc in Michigan is new to the Ponsetti method (this is

his 4th year) and he does seem to alter a bit from the true Ponsetti

method. I am very happy with the results though and hate to stray from

our course of treatment at this point.

To answer your question, normally we would be outside for a few hours at

a time, maybe more than once a day. So far he is doing great and

walking so well that I am afraid to goof that up. Maybe just for

morning playtime in the yard we will get a regular pair of shoes and try

to spend the later part of the day up on the deck or something in his

open toed boots. Sorry just thinking out loud.

Anyway thanks for your thoughts and good luck with Darbis treatment.

Molly,

Hi I don't post often, but read lots. We are also from Michigan, what doctor do

you go to may I ask? We also went to a doctor here in Michigan, he is down at

Children's Hospital in Detroit.
