I used the fertility drug clomid.

In-vitro fertilization & RSS incidence

Hi,

My twins were conceived via IVF. Dr. H said during our consult last

weekend that she was finding a high incidence of RSS in IVF twins but

she doesn't know why. I'm just curious if any of the others on this

list with twins or triplets conceived via IVF or even just fertility

drugs. Did Dr. H mention this to you? Have you talked to your RE

about it? We have 8 frozen embryos which we had planned to use

someday but now I wonder if there could be RSS present in any of the

others. I wish there was a way to test for it, but probably not.

Hi ,

When we spoke to Dr. H last, she mentioned to us that she was finding

a higher incidence of RSS in twins and triplets. We asked her if IVF

was an issue (our twins were IVF) and she said no. She told us that

most of the twins and triplets that she knew of with RSS were not

IVF. Maybe between you and us we changed the statistics. We don't

have anymore embryos so for us it isn't as issue. Since the only

test for RSS is UPD7 which is only in 10% of cases, even if you could

do it on an embroyo it probably wouldn't be worth it.

No, but I did take the " morning after " pill with Darcy (both my kids

were actively " prevented " , lol)

- Our twins were IVF too. I'm a neonatal nurse and the theory that we

have is that there are more problems in general with kids conceived by IVF.

We think it's because embryos that would ordinarily not survive are kept

implanted by the drugs we take after they put the embryos in. I don't know if

that theory works in this case or not. I have lots of friends who have done

IVF and had kids without any problems but I have seen a number of kids that

have had rare syndromes or just strange problems. I would still do it again

even knowing that. Hope this was useful info,

Hi ,

My name is Cheryl and I'm the triplet Mom of the group. Our son, ,

has RSS plus other medical issues. My kids were conceived with IVF and ICSI

(sperm was directly seminated into my eggs with a tiny needle). My other 2

kids, and , are fine. As far as I know we are the only

triplets that Dr. H sees on a regular basis. She has said nothing to me

about this being common with IVF. I had 14 embryos left in the freezer to

potentially use (our hospital charges for frozen embryos). Needless to say

with triplets, I've met my quota and we opted to have the embryos dethawed.

If I had had twins, I was sure I'd go for round 2. Not now. 3's my limit.

Personally, I wouldn't keep RSS from having more kids. Yes, they can be a

lot of work, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not that bad. I wish

you luck with your decisions down the road.

Hi -

We conceived Dominic using IVF but he's not a twin. I

have wondered about the correlation also. But, we

have 4 frozen embryos left and will definitely use

them one day. Take care!

& ,

We also used a fertility drug, clomophine (sp?), to conceive Tyler

(IUGR/RSS?) but not (non RSS). It would be very interesting

to see the findings if they do a study. I hope the idea of having an

RSS baby doesn't discourage people from using fertility drugs since

Tyler is so amazing despite the hard feeding times!

Is someone collecting this information and maybe doing a report?
