Guest guest
Sue Ellen were you tested for nystagmus at an ENT ?This is a gittering of the eyes when you focus .you cant detect this by yourself they do a special test ..GEO Visit to the LSU Eye Clinic Hi everybody, I visited the LSU Eye Clinic last week to have my vision problems (burning eyes, blurring vision, changes in vision) checked and the neuro-ophthmalogist looked at my eyes and had following comments: 1. He was familiar with PLS and did not believe there was eye involvement. 2. They stuck these pieces of paper in my eyes to see how dry they were. My eyes were dry and felt it was caused by meds, mainly Baclofen, Zanaflex, Imipramine HCl and Detrol. Recommended I reconsider the ITB as that should eliminate oral Baclofen and Zanaflex. 3. My eyes do not fully shut when I am relaxed with them shut and this causes additional dryness. Dr. had suspected dryness is why I tore my corneas at NIH 2 years ago - the cornea stuck to my eyelids when I woke in the morning. 4. Provided me with 4 samples of eye lubricants to try at home and to use them for 3 weeks and come back to see corneal specialist. Said I might need punctal plugs (sp?) if that did not take care of it. They plug your tear ducts. 5. Said my pupils were dilated (Dr. Floeter had also commented on this 2 weeks ago) and asked me to track it in relation to blurring vision. Does anyone else have that? So far they don't seem to gbe related. 6. Lubricants did not seem to help and by Tues. my eyes were burning more. Called clinic and they made appt. for Thurs. for corneal specialist. He looked at them again, also commented on dilated pupils and said I needed the plugs and they were installed that afternoon. I go back for another visit in 3 months. Some of blurring was caused by double vision so I don't know how this fixes that. 7. My eyes are feeling much better but am still using drops. Burning is much reduced and worst blurring/fogging is gone. Am still watching that. 8. Forgot to ask why my eyes tear up when I have yawning spells. Serious tearing and burning can occur when the cornea tears (my experience) so don't fiddle around if your eyes are burning. See a Dr.! Guest guest
GEO, While I don't remember Dr. Calkwood at LSU mentioning nystagmus, Dr. Floeter provided me with a copy of her findings from my visit and it listed " no nystagmus " . Guest guest
Hi Sue Ellen, Thank you for your update and information. I guess a regular ophthalmologist would not be able to pick this up right? I just had my eyes checked and he just gave me a new prescription. Well, I'll have to wait until next year and ask for a neuro-ophthalmologist. Thanks again.
