Guest guest
A friend of mine was just prescribed Lipitor for his high cholesterol but doesn't want to take it because he LOVES grapefruit juice. Does anyone know why you can't mix Lipitor and grapefruit juice? I mentioned the Borage Oil but need to know the dosage and how it comes as far capsules etc. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Grapefruit juice has been found to significantly increase oral bioavailability of several drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450. This means that the drug is metabolized more quickly, resulting in higher doses in the bloodstream faster than intended. There are many drugs that are affected by grapefruit juice in this manner. This site has a fairly comprehensive list, as well as a more involved explanation: http://emphysemafoundation.org/Grapejuice.html Theresa > A friend of mine was just prescribed Lipitor for his high cholesterol but > doesn't want to take it because he LOVES grapefruit juice. Guest guest
Someone told you about the grapefruit juice and many medications. I also love grapefruit and grapefruit juice. I make it a rule to take it only between medication doses - mid morning, mid afternoon. I take 500 mg. of Borage Seed Oil four times a day. I get it from Puritan's Pride. laurie > From: LILQT4U1984@... > Reply-To: > Date: Tue, 3 Feb 2004 10:49:30 EST > To: > Subject: Borage Oil > > A friend of mine was just prescribed Lipitor for his high cholesterol but > doesn't want to take it because he LOVES grapefruit juice.
