Guest guest
Sorry no advice from me -- but support yes. My son who is going to be 5 on August 1st -- still has pee pee accidents DAILY!!!!!!!! Never " poop " accidents!!! Go figure. He really does best -- at school -- only goes for 2 1/2 hours and his teacher -- makes him go -- at home -- he doesn't listen as good. I look for the dryer days. So, I understand being the mother of an almost 5 year old who is 1/2 potty trained can feel. All my best and hang in there! Lori J. I think it just took that long to sink in because we tried everything you could think of to train him to poop in the potty. We just kept going over with him everyday that if he had to poop, he should go in the potty since he was 5 now and a big boy. It took about a month or so of reiterating the fact that he is a big boy now. Chris
Guest guest
an old post, but I'll resend..... Many of these kids that have " potty training issues " have them, because of hypotonia, or low muscle tone.....OR sensory issues. Sometimes they don't understand that feeling means that they have to " go " ...so they ignore it, until it's too late. Or in the situation of a child with hypotonia, they may not feel it, until it's too late. Many children with this type of situation potty train late. YES, being consistent does help, and sometimes it's just a matter of " catching " them. All in good time :-) ~good luck!~ Karyn Re: [ ] potty training and apraxia In a message dated 7/22/04 8:18:43 PM Eastern Daylight Time, formall1@... writes: > . Is > this happening to anyone else ? Guest guest
hi, My son never potty trained until 6.5 yrs old. He went to 2 yrs of headstart in diapers and a half year at 5.5 still in diapers in kindergarten. He had a on on one aide who was not thrilled with his not being trained but she did change him if he needed it though. but very rarely did he need changing though. Then the the other half of the year i put him in pullups in school and they worked on peeing in the potty for the rest of the year. The whole second year of k he was in pullups also. But went to preschool half a day also. the prerschool told me the same thing that they will not except him in pullups. But he went in them anyway for the first few months. then they and i both started working on putting him in underwear a few hours a day and training him very actively. He has now been day trained for a year and a half about. He went to 1st garde last year and had a couple of accidents and never got changed. I raised a stink about it and his one on aide was fired for it. It says inmy sons iep that he is trained but is prone to frequent accidents. ( has not had many since then a few when he was sick.) But i am leaving it in his 2nd grade iep anyway. So if he has one his aide has to help him change his clothes. He has an extra outfit in his backpack. ( just in case.) It also helped me to keep his individual aide for 2nd grade that his IEP states requires help with self care. I advice is put it in your daughters IEP itself that she is not trained and requires help with self care. Plus that she is not trained and the reasons why. It helped my case a lot. I never got another comment or advice again. I got my sons pediatrician to come to my sons IEP meeting and tell the team my son is not able to be trained just yet.. My son att 8 is still not night trained and hbis pediatrician told me it is still most likely not going to be for a while yet. Good luck.
