Guest guest
Hi all, I just ordered another sleepsack for because he outgrew his old one. I thought it may be beneficial for other parents to know about the sleepsack. We lived in Germany for years and instead of blankets for babies, they use a " sleepsack " . It is like a sleeveless sleeping bag that zips up the front. These things are great! often would kick off his blankets at nighttime with the brace on. With the sleepsack, he stays nice and warm in any position all night long. I had bought one in Germany but did find several websites that they can be purchased on. I just ordered one from " baby in a bag " . You can also get fleece ones made by Halo at Target. If you can sew, it would be simple to do (I only do stitchwitchery). Anyway, I hope this may help some of you. If you need more info, let me know! Bethany
Guest guest
I've also seen them at WalMart. We used them for Alaya and love them. makes some with long sleeves too. We used them with her until the bar was too long to fit in the sleepsack. We loved the gowns with our oldest son, but couldn't use them for Alaya because the elastic kept the gown from going over her legs with the brace. Guest guest
The ones at Walmart are very thin, and way too small for Darbi's bar which is about 15 " wide toe to toe. The Halo ones are $30!!!! and have no sleeves which I think defeats the purpose of having something warm for her in the winter. s only goes to 9mo size and are also not wide enough to accommodate an older baby's bar, especially a bilateral bar. Sooooo... we've had to find something else since Darbi would wake every hour all night long when I wasn't in bed with her because she would get caught up in the covers. I had this blanket that had a cinch drawstring on the bottom and which tied up the front. Kind of like a sleeping bag except without a zipper, it has 6 ties and the drawstring on the bottom instead. Since I started wrapping her up in that and pulling the covers on our bed all the way down (we co-sleep) she has stopped waking as often, in fact she often sleeps all evening long till we get into bed this way (from 8-midnight or later). It covers her like a blanket, she can poke her arms out if she wants or tuck them in which I think would feel good (since I like to be under covers - I assume she would). If anyone needs a visual let me know, this really could be done with any blanket, just sew ties on the edges and hem the bottom and put a long cinch tie in. It works for us because it's just about too small for her and fits tightly enough so that she can move about without it rolling or falling off her. A very large version would probably just get tangled. Kori At 05:46 PM 2/1/04, you wrote: >I've also seen them at WalMart. We used them for Alaya and love them. > makes some with long sleeves too. Guest guest
Wow, I applaud your creativity with a blanket! The sleepsacks that are made in Europe are much bigger than the US ones. They have much more room in the legs and can accomodate the bar easily. They do cost more though as you have said. The new one I just ordered was $36 (it is a winter one which costs a bit more). For us the sleepsack has been worth every penny. has been using the same one for several months and he should still be able to use it when it warms up here again. It is sleeveless, we just put him in long sleeve pajamas. You could also put a sweatshirt on underneath if you were still worried. My girlfriend tried to make one but she made the armpits bigger than my sons head. God bless her for trying. She told me to save it for when he was a teenager. She hadn't sewn anything since home ec in high school. I won't say how long ago that was! Perhaps someone in the group lives in Europe and can get them cheaper? Something to consider...
