Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. I felt a lump in my esphagus

for about a month. I happened to mention it to one of the residents while I

was in the hospital, but it was never followed through. Eventually it just

went away. Don't know what it was or what it was related to. Sandy

Can anyone tell me if it is normal for a person with Afib to feel like there is

a lump in the throat? I constantly feel as though there is a lump in my

esophagus. Is this because of the condition? Any one else experience this?

Hi, Melvin,

I went to my internist about that symptom, and she sent me to an

ear/nose/throat doc to check it out. After the dust settled, it

turned out to be a side effect of Lexapro, which I had started taking

for anxiety. (Apparently anxiety itself can also cause that feeling.)

However, the doc took it seriously enough, perhaps because I was

having real trouble swallowing, that she did check it out.

I don't remember what things she speculated it might be, but I dimly

recall her saying one thing about people can sometimes develop little

pouches in their throat or something that might need to be fixed. I

am not a medical professional, though, so take this with a grin of

salt- when in doubt, see your doc.

As far as I know, it is not related to afib, except of course that

afib was causing the anxiety :-)
