Guest guest
This is something you should ask your doc about. Steriods are kind of tricky. I can tell you adrenal levels do affect your thyroid levels as they both use each other as 'guages' on how much to run and how quickly. With my allergy meds, they help me because they keep my adrenals from having to work too hard and they allow them to rest and conserve their energy. The inhaler that I use will help to stimulate them (I notice if I puff too much, I get very irritable and cranky for about 30 minutes until it wears down). Personally I feel fine with my meds and they have leveled out my mood swings, etc. I would talk to your doc and make sure that none of your meds are interfering with thyroid meds as many allergy meds can. Good luck, will allergy med skew my thyroid panels?> > > I'm waiting impatiently for my authorization for testing from > HealthcheckUSA. Guest guest
Thanks Kat, I am an infrequent taker of the Benadryl allergy med. I took it for about 5-6 months in autumn winter of 2004, then about 3 months in autumn 2005, and so far in 2006 I have not taken any. Best to skip it if I can. Good advice. Thank you Now I'm off to bed - where I should have been 2 hours ago - but I still can't get out of my night-owl mode. -Lynn > > > Not sure if it effects it or not, but my thinking is if you normally > take allergy meds then take your meds..good or bad for the bloodwork > as the allergy meds are going to need to be worked around anyways > while you treat your thyroid. > If you do not normally take allergy meds , or only take them once in > a while then if you can hold off on them , hold off on them.. they > do not need to be in the bloodwork. > There is a lot of meds that effect your thyroid or effect your > bloodwork, some good , some bad.. but in my opinion it is of little > use to not take regular meds in order to get good bloodwork when > after the bloodwork is done you go back on the meds anyways. > I know estrogen effects the thyroid, now if you stop estrogen for > the testing, you will have better results then if you take estrogen > before the testing.. bloodwork looks good, back on estrogen which > binds hormones and lowers bloodwork.. > JMO..but if you are on regular meds for something non thyroid > related do not stop them for the bloodwork in hopes it aids your > bloodwork or skews it..because after the bloodwork you will be back > on the meds and not know how they are effecting your thyroid. > > Kats3boys
