Guest guest
Hi Aussie Jane, 30 YEARS of a goiter with NO scan??holy cow!!! Are you being treated for for hypo or hashis and if so, What meds if any are you on? How do you feel and how are your “numbers” i.e. TSH, t3f and t4? Sue Go to your endo, talk to your primary care, talk to anyone who will listen. Please keep me updated... If only I could loan you my mostly open minded doc... *sigh*. Good luck aussie Jane, you fight and kick and scream at them... tell them you've got some friends across the pond who mean business! . Re: question for anyone about weird feeling in neck... Guest guest
also... you can say.. okay, you don't think I have thyroid problems?.. well, what else can cause this?.. help me find out. Then they will be more open to trying everything else... you'll have to go around your arse to get to your elbow (so to speak) but it is worth a shot. Then you get the added benefit of saying HA! I told you so later on lol. a. Re: Re: Re question for Aussie jane Hi Aussie Jane...I can see why the docs would deem you “normal” cuz you are In range... Geeez, you can’t find a doctor who WILL do a scan?It just makes no sense, I would be scared NOT to scanAn enlarged thyroid... Has anyone even FELT your neck/thyroid Area physically to confirm you have it...or — maybe youCan find something SIMILAR in symptoms toWarrant getting a neck scan? This sounds HORRIBLE!Yes, come across the pond — and get a scan -- Our doctors will take care of you and we will“take care” of your doc!!! :)Sue -Hi Sue,Yup - that's right. I was 18 and that's what my family Dr said andnothing has ever been done since. Have had CFS, Fibro, chronicheadaches, weight issues. Not ONCE did my GP mention my Goitre.I wasdx as borderline low in 1978 and have had no followup or meds EVER.Had a TSH done last year and Endo said it was normal 1.4 ( 0.5 -3.7)Another Dr saw the same test and said I had 'low thyroid' Confused- but wonder if he dx on symptoms as well.Joined this List - eyes popped out with info. Went to GP armed withknowledge. Had to demand another TSH and ask 3x for Free T3 & Free T4. TSH 1.1 ( 0.5 - 3.7)FT4 13 ( 10 - 25)FT3 4.4 (3.1 - 5.4)In all the stress ( Dr was 'very' angry towards me) I forgot to getantibodies.Dr wanted me to have stomach scan for reflux (????)2 weeks later have sore lump most of the time, husky voice, tired ofcourse ( that is normal for me after 30 years) and trouble swallowing- food & fluids. said to go back to Dr and say I have friends across the pondthat I will send after her !Aussie Jane
Guest guest
-Well - Dr thought I had Reflux problems. Wants me to have stomach barium scan. Trouble is - any fasting test done to me is major. I have a severe Hypoglycemic problem. That is what Endo dx last year when he did fist TSH test. I flunked the 5 hour GTT. Reactive Hypoglycemia he calls it. If I don't eat every 3 hours I collapse. Now wondering if its all related to Thyroid after all. But present Goitre problem is Reflux according to my Dr. But then - she dx my Gall attacks as stomach too ! It took me 3 visits to different Drs for 3rd opinion before a gall bladder scan was done and that showed sludge ! lol. That was 17 years of misdx and Drs telling me I had nothing wrong and it was a sore muscle. I don't have any reflux symptoms and don't see why that test should be done before the Thyroid scan. Less radiation the better and like to have correct scans first time. To give you a hint what I mean, I have a goiter and although yes it has been ultrasounded , no nodules, just enlarged..and visabley noticable.. my TSH is 0.92..my T4 is 18( 11-19).. If you look at others who post, those not on meds or just starting meds you will notice a link between TSH and T4..I am not seeing that link here..although conversion to T3 looks great considering how low the T4 is..thinking maybe TBG?? It needs to be tested..estrogen? Androgen and other hormones that can effect TBG and will also let you know if it is pituary related or hormone related.. As a general guideline you want your TSH to be near 1..( with out replacement..the medium average is 1.25..so your TSH looks great..and if your doc keeps looking at your TSH, chances are not much is going to change. Most people feel the best with a T4 in the upper 2/3's of the range so with the range your lab uses..a T4 between 18-22 would be optimal...your labs show a T4 at 13?? Ask your doc if your TSH is fine why is your T4 so low? Make him look for answers.. Kats3boys
Guest guest
Hi Kats3boys, Food for thought. Not sure what you mean though - if my T4 is low how can my TSH be happy & working. need an explanation before I see Dr and start asking hard questions.I know what you mean though. It looks 'wrong' somehow. Also - all the symptoms. And I can't swallow !
