one person replied to it, when I read all the other messages on this

group I get the feeling that " what a knowledgeable lot you

are....or maybe not.

Did I say something wrong, did I mention Pee instead of urinate or

Jerk instead of remind....I bet I will get an answer to this

message !!!!!

I found the info explaining the reason for frequent urination while in AFIB.

The atrium releases a peptide when stretched, called " Atrial

Natriuretic peptide " which has the effect of a diuretic and reduces

blood volume.

" Atrial Natriuretic Peptide is a hormone that is released from the

atrial cells in the heart in response to overstretch of the atrial

cardiac muscle cells. Specific volume receptors in the atria detect

an increase in plasma volume due to stretching beyond a certain

threshold or limit (Rector, 1987). This peptide is released in

response to stimuli that increase blood volume in the body, such as a

blood transfusion or an increased salt and water intake and

ultimately this peptide controls these changes by increasing the

urinary volume excretion through several different mechanisms. "

..... " This vasodilation causes an increase in capillary pressure, thus

an increase in glomerular filtration rate, causing an increase in

urinary volume excretion. In response to an increase in blood volume

and thus blood pressure, this will cause the blood volume to directly

drop (pressure diuresis) "

I take it you mean the busting urge to urinate about an hour after

you've gone into Afib ?

I get it.... but sorry don't know. I've always wondered that myself.

This is common in afibbers and is due to a protein which is released when

afib starts. I think it's the body's way of avoiding stretching the atria

too much--your body thinks there's a lot of fluid on the way

does nobody check our links section :) ...

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/AFIBsupport/links/Types_of_Afib_00098398240\

1/

or our database section

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/AFIBsupport/database?method=reportRows & tbl=\

17

and if yahoo had a good search engine you could search our archive for

the very many times it's been discussed before :)

a google search (www.google.com) for

" Atrial Natriuretic Peptide " " atrial fibrillation "

will get lots of hits

as will a pubmed search

(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed) search for

" Atrial Natriuretic Peptide " AND " atrial fibrillation "
