Guest guest
Hey All! My mom had ablation for a-fib about 2.5 weeks ago (Pappone method)in Rockford, IL. She seemed to come through the procedure pretty well...even though it was a lengthy procedure (4.75 hrs. from rolling in to rolling out of EP lab). We are aware that the heart rhythm and rate are going to be somewhat erratic for a bit...after all, she did have heart " spot welded " (one of her doctor's who has a wonderful bedside manner and sense of humor refers to it as that!). Mom stayed overnight in the hospital and was out by noon the next day. She is getting along pretty well and trying not to use her heart rate monitor to see when her rate is up--the doctor told her that would make any sane person crazy, especially since it is going to be out of whack for a bit. My Mom is experiencing a bit of shortness of breath, however. Granted, she is somewhat out of shape...which doesn't help. She is getting winded though. Both her EP and her Internist are aware of this and nobody has sent up any red flags. Mom is 64, back on her Coumadin, 100mg of Tambocor 2X daily, and 50mg of Toprol XL once daily. I think it would make my folks feel a little more comfortable if I could share with them some stories from some of you who have had ablations. One fellow on the CC site said he was very fatigued for about a month after his procedure. Anyone who would care to share would be greatly appreciated. Was anybody else out of breath, fatigued, out of rhythm, etc? How long did it take before things started settling down? Thanks so much for the feedback...your help is appreciated. My folks are very computer savy...so I am their little internet researcher! Rhonda

It goes well with 'rat poison' (warfarin) and 'barbecuing' (cardioversion). I haven't had my ablation yet, but you'll find some very helpful folks here. There are also some good post ablation posts in the archives. Not sure what terms I'd use to search for them, tho.
