Hi,

I'm very frustrated because my ped. neurologist knows

next to nothing about apraxia (which is of course a neurological

condition!) and when I xeroxed pages from the Late Talker for him, he

got angry. When it came time to write a letter for Early

Intervention, he wrote that the slp " thinks it's apraxia " etc. I'm

so mad. That's not going to help (age 22 mon) get the

services he needs. What's wrong with him? At $400 a pop, you'd think

he'd tell me if he knew nothing about it BEFORE the visit. Hey, I

even called him to ask him.

Anyway, I need to see a dev. ped or neurologist in New York City who

knows about apraxia and different therapeutic methods and can help my

son. I'm losing my mind with uninformed doctors. Of course, Dr.

Agin is not currently taking patients, even though I call her office

all the time, trying to get an appointment for months. I wish I

could just go see her.

PLease help me find someone good! I know there's someone out there!

Marcella did you try someone at Columba Presby? There's an entire neurological

building there, with an entire floor dedicated to pediatric neurology. I'd give

them a call before you look any further.

hi marcella,

My son is going to see a Dr.quinn tomorrow, I was very lucky to get this paid

for by my district so I did not go the normal route of me calling for appt

etc... She does have a private practice so I'll see if she has openings too.

I'll check her out for you and I heard great things about her. do you want me

to e-mail after his appt?

Hi Marcella,

Just to let you know, I also called Dr. Agin's office and was told

that she isn't currently taking any new patients. However, her

receptionist did tell me that my son could be put on a waiting

list...probably to be seen around January or February. I realize

that is a LOOONG time to wait, and I am only able to wait that long

because I have pediatric neurologist already in the process of

evaluating my son. Basically, I plan on using the pedi neuro for

helping him get services through the SD and having him see Dr. Agin

for my own peace of mind.

So, what I'm trying to say is, if you can wait a while for Dr. Agin

just for your peace of mind and maybe see someone else in the

meantime, maybe that could be an option?

Hope this helps,

Laurel, mom to Evan (almost 31 mo, PRS, non-verbal but not diagnosed

yet) and (almost 7 yo)
