Breast cancer/Thyroid cancer question

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a couple of questions. My

mother was dx with breast cancer (DCIS) Sept. 2002. She had a

lumpectomy and 6wks. of radiation. She was doing well then ended up

in the ER a couple of weeks ago with sharp pain due to pleurisy. She

went home with meds and was feeling better. Thank goodness I urged

her to go see a pulmonologist for follow-up. I was concerned maybe

the radiation did some damage to her lungs. Anyway, last night she

tells me they found 2 nodules in her right lung same side as the

breast cancer...and 1 nodule in her thyroid. I'm assuming it's coming

from the breast cancer but can it go to the thyroid? or is it more

likely that what is in her thyroid is unrelated? She's devastated

again but I think it is b/c she thinks she has 2 cancers now. One

doctor told me it is unlikely to have more than one cancer going

on...more likely if anything shows up it's mets. She tells me one of

her docs told her the opposite that it increases her risk of getting

another cancer.

I have been telling her to find a support group like this one but she

hasn't. Does anyone know of one similar to the Thyca group? If she

doesn't join, I will.
