Guest guest
Just had my 4 year old son's annual IEP meeting and am very pleased to have gotten 120 minutes of direct (one-on-one/pullout) speech time for him per week. He'll be having it 5 days a week. Plus his speech teacher is in the classroom and she targets him there too. He will also be getting 30 minutes of PT and 30 of OT. Was hoping for a bit more on the OT, but hey, I got him 120 on the speech....I'm not gonna complain.
Guest guest
Good for you!! I'm glad to hear that you were able to extract that much time for your son. It'll be SO good for him! Congrats! le (mom to Drew, almost 3, apraxia, DSI and hypotonia) > Just had my 4 year old son's annual IEP meeting and am very pleased > to have gotten 120 minutes of direct (one-on-one/pullout) speech time > for him per week. Guest guest
120 minutes?? Good for you! We just had Josh's IEP this a.m. - got only 60 minutes one-on-one and additional 40 as group. Depending on the new SLT schedule he'll have speech of some sort everyday as well (our wonderful SLT is leaving to get a doctorate in speech with emphasis on kids with autism). I think we're going to look into private therapy to add to the school SLT. We compromised on the PT situation - the PT was clearly having problems with Josh (he wouldn't work for her, he'd hit other kids if she was working with him in relation to peers, such as getting on/off bus, but not hitting when other people would work with him). There is another PT but there was disagreement as to whether he needed it anymore (we said yes, they said no) so we're having an eval done (unfortunately with the current PT's boss - does it sound like we'll need a second independent one??) and we'll go from there. We decided to just compromise on the current PT acting as a consultant (she wanted to put down 1 minute weekly - everyone balked at that - she's a jerk) but we're going to look to outside PT's instead. OT is still 40 minutes weekly (yeah - she has some great ideas and her son is with Josh at afterschool care) and MusicT is still the same (Josh loves him - his only male therapist!). The district is hinting that MusicT is not going to continue after this year for summers (we talked them into it for this summer though) but probably will for school years only. We'll have SLT over the summer, we hope with a SLT Josh had a few years ago and did very well with (if only the district would hire her for school!) as well as MusicT and OT. We're also doing Lekotek with Josh now through Easter Seals -wonderful woman who knows Josh and is really into working with him - his first session is today. Good job!
