Guest guest
Hi Kristi, you are so welcome I am glad my silliness can help. When says " fff beet " try to say " oh no that silly B got in there again, that is how Madison became aware of her " s " always coming into the word. I haven't tried any of the whistles on that site...we did lots of blowing, even having Madison try to blow me down. I just can't stress how important it is to keep it fun for them. We did use the " chewy tube " for awhile. Our SLP has Madison bite down on an end of a toothbrush and has her do her " tongue exercises " I tell Madison that her tongue is like mommy and wants to sleep all the time. :-) Let me know how things go. It does help to know that maybe eventually that b will go away. One more question, did you ever use any of those whistle kits or straw kits from talk tools, if so, do you think it helps? I appreciate your advice. Thanks, Kristi in ville

Guest guest
Hello, The tongue exercises we do with Madison is having her stick her tongue out and moving it from one side of her mouth to the other. I started pulling her ear and saying there was a sting attached from her ear to her tongue so when I pulled that ear down her tongue goes to that side. Just something to make it alittle more fun because at first it was very hard for her. Her SLP has her bite on the side of a small toothbrush..she places it on the side of Madison's mouth so there is alittle space between her top and bottom lips and ask Madison to touch the roof of her mouth with her tongue. This is also very hard ....then they do vowel sounds while her jaw is still held still. I bought Madison a stuffed animal (wyatt the dog) it is sort of a puppet his mouths opens and you can move his tongue. madison is such a visual learner that I thought for the movements that are really hard to see that the dog would help. It really did help , she brings him to therapy with him and when she is having a hard time we have Wyatt try. I forget what website I got him from. I will think and post the site if you would like. Does your sons mouth muscles need alot of work/stimulation? Oh, we also give Madison sour candy to wake up her mouth before therapy. They are really sour to us but not to her, which just shows us her sensories in her mouth are weak. talk to you soon Liz Re: Re: [ ] Re: questions about talk tools website > Hi Liz, > > Thanks so much for your reply. Guest guest
Kristi, Just to let you know, one of CJs SLPs uses the horns/whistles. I do feel they helped, but they were a bit pricey considering a lot of the same whistles were at the dollar store, LOL! Seriously though, they are in a specific heirarchy, which was good. We also did a lot of games in the beginning, like crawling around on the floor being elephants with the party horns that role out when you blow into them. This was great from an OT standpoint as well! Do you have any older children? I found that getting my older ones to do it first made CJ want to follow. We also did lots of blowing of bubbles, cotton ball " races " using straws, and CJ always blows the red lights green for me when we are in the car. His SLP doesn't use them as much any more, but we still take them out occasionally, and he does lots of bubble blowing still! Cj needs lots of oral input, so we have a chewy tube, electric toothbrush (we also do it on his lips when he'll let us), lots of games with pretzel sticks and his tongue, etc. Hope this helps! in PA <smvincent@...> wrote: Hi Kristi, you are so welcome I am glad my silliness can help.
