Welcome to the list, Diane. I hope you enjoy yourself and learn a lot and

aren't bashful about posting! You're at about the stage where I was when

the new wore off and I got interested in talking to people about some

different things. Congratulations on your achievement.....this takes a lot

of energy on a lot of different levels.....spiritual, physical,

intellectual....and a certain amount of good luck.

Hi , I'm new to the group. I have had hives for 17 months, I pray everyday for them to go away. I have done a detox , thought it might be yeast overgrouth, didn't help. I also have gone on a food elimanation diet, no success. I use quercitin, a vitamin and aloe gel , they help alot. I can't take any drugs since I have osteoporsis, the drugs will cause more bone loss. Thank you for any help...................Sue...................

hi Sharon...I have had giant hives/angiodema for a million years (almost

42). I have been through so much trial and error...for years I would be on

the lookout for THE CAUSE....always en guard...always nervous about what I

was eating.....sometimes fasting completely for a few days...many years not

having any milk products......the bottom line is that each of us is faced

with a ton of trial and error driven by desperation.....no " specialist " has

ever been able to figure out the cause of my affliction....I have not been

able to figure out the cause, just some of the triggers (pressure/bruises

and stress)...it has just been the last 2 years when I started QUERCITIN,

that I feel this has gotten close to under control...with the quercitin, the

attacks seem less powerful and less frequent and sometimes an ibuprofen and

allegra are enough....

as far as using prednisone - for me that has also been trial and

error....weighing the pain with the fear of side effects....also through

lots of trial and error. EACH of us is DIFFERENT, but for me taking

prednisone as needed in combination with other drugs has allowed me to take

much less. I was scared to take it daily, plus I felt I may be reacting to

the prednisone itself, so I as soon as I start swelling I take a little (2.5

mg - 5 mg)....if the swelling persists I take a little more....

For me, the swelling has been accompanied by a lot of pain (terrible

itching/burning) and anxiety (feeling like I can't get away from the

torture), so I have found that if I took A LITTLE pain medication (1/4 of a

percodan) and an anti-anxiety (1/2 of a xanax) I was able to take a lot less

prednisone. In soothing the pain and the anxiety, the swelling became less

powerful...(for me pain and itching itself is an irritant that aggravates

the swelling - vicious cycle)....OBVIOUSLY, you have to know yourself, since

these are powerful and potentially addictive drugs...but for me - just a

little bit helps a lot and keeps my prednisone down .....like drinking, this

combo of meds does make one care less that one is swelling!!!!!

ALTERNATE DAY THERAPY - I had a great article which I am still trying to

track down - very informative....I'm still trying to relocate it - it goes

into detail about the importance of giving yourself a days break!...Tree
