Aorta Abdominal Aneurysm

I am now in the final stage of recuperation from an AAA Repair. All is going

well and I am almost feeling normal again since the surgery on October 17, 2002.

Going back to April 2002, a nurse in Internal Medicine scheduled me for a Stress

test. I

failed it and suddenly found myself in a wheelchair being rushed to a surgical

ward. Following a cardiac catherization, it was discovered that I had severe

blockages in the heart and also had an aneurysm measuring a little over 5 ct.

The heart had to be

resolved first so I had a quadruple bypass on May 7th. On July 30th I had a AAA

Repair which was aborted because the surgeons found a suspicious looking

infection on the bowel. Home to recuperate. On October 17th, the AAA Repair

was successfully done.

It was a 6 1/2 hour surgery. I couldn't have the more non-invasive procedure

now commonly used because my veins were too small. However, I am happy to

report that I am feeling well - the incisions are healing and while I showed no

symptoms of ANY

problems I had a nurse who said that heart problems often presented differently

in women than men. I can't tell you how grateful I am for the care and

expertise I received. I am 73 and looking forward to a hearty and healthy

future.

Epstein Barr virus

My fiance was just diagnosed with Epstein Barr virus in September of 2002. I am

struggling to find detailed information about EBV, while still trying to cope

with his condition. If anyone wants to 'pen pal' please respond or if you can

provide

information to help us I'd REALLY appreciate it. We live in Minnesota & I am

anxious to find someone here close by us to possibly meet or if you just want to

communicate via email. Larry is 32 years old & feels ( & looks) 50. He has all

the classic EBV

symptoms & I wonder what gets me through my day when I have to work & leave him

sitting home alone to do nothing all day. Please help & be a pen pal to my

frustration.

Sleepwalking son

I have read many articles that say that sleepwalking is not dangerous and is not

a need for concern as long as you have obstacles out of the way. I have a son

who sleepwalks frequently. My husband and I are concerned because he has been

sleepwalking every

night for the last two weeks. It is normal for him to sleepwalk 2-3 times in a

week...but every night is a little much. He is always muttering and doesn't make

since. If you try to talk to him, he will acknowledge that we are speaking to

him but still

can't say what he wants to say. We have made sure that he always goes to bed at

the same time and he always gets enough sleep. He doesn't eat or drink much

before going to bed either. I used to sleepwalk when I was a child but never

this bad...or so my

mother tells me. My son is 8 and has been doing this for at least 2 years. If

anyone has any ideas what else we could try I would be very greatful. Thanks.

Acid reflux

since dec.1997 I've been vomitting acid, water, blood, foods basically anything

gets vomitted. This has me worried and doctors don't seem to know how to fix

this problem. It's said I have acid reflux, but what can I do about it.

Sometimes I feel like

getting rid of myself, because the pain is highly terrible. Can anyone help.

Low

I can relate to your grandmother. I have low blood pressure myself, and I,

too, was told that nothing could be done. I have been advised to stand or sit

very slowly (so as not to faint), and to increase the salt in my diet. Hope

that helps.

I have low B/P as well and doctors never seem to be concerned about it. They

always look at me like I'm crazy if I seem concerned about it. I wish I had some

could share

Drug addiction - back pain

My grandson, who is addicted to heroin says the reason he started taking it is

because he has lower back pain constantly. He goes for methedone treatments but

is being let out of the program as he is behind in the payments. They now have

him on a very low

dosage and he stole money(large amt) from his parents to buy heroin to make up

for the dosage....(he says) They are desperate to know what to do and it seems

the ONLY way he can get into a facility is to be arrested. Any advice or

comments would be

appreciated. A broken hearted Grandma.

Alcohol

As far as I know, the only known antidote for alcohol poisoning is to get the

victim to the ER...FAST! It is better to be safe than sorry. I have heard too

many stories of people at parties trying to sober someone up by throwing them

into a shower, giving

them coffee, letting them " sleep it off " . These are all dangerous and foolish

ways of handling such a serious problem. Caffeine only makes the intoxicated

person a wide-awake drunk; a shower can cause a severe slip/fall posing more

threats, and sleeping it

off can prove to be a fatal slumber...going into a coma and never reviving.

There is also the very possible chance of someone drowning in one's own vomit

while lying down severely intoxicated. When in doubt, seek medical attention

IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!

Nose Bleeds

My father was a Golden Gloves Boxer in his youth. He told me of a treatment for

epitaxis by insert moistened gauze up under the nose between the teeth and upper

lip pressing firmly against the

upper reaches of the upper lip, packing it in tightly. If gauze was not readily

available to use grocery wrapping, or other " heavy paper " such as a piece of a

brown grocery bag, wetted and rolled, then forced into the space as described.

The nose bleed

will cease within a minute or two.

Has anyone else heard of this?

Please write me. I work in a an Emergency Room and the MD's had never heard of

this treatment.

Cancer and Dengue Fever

My friend has just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, stage IV. In looking up

information for treatment, she came across the use of dengue fever to help force

cancer patients build their immune systems to a level where the body would

recognize and kill

cancer cells. Thus far only five patients have been tested on and results have

been very encouraging. All patients (each with cancer affecting a different

part of the body), including one in stage 3c have had their cancer cells

eradicated. Is there

anyone who has more information on the use of Dengue fever to treat cancer

patients?

i was diagnosed in november of 2000 with pulmonary fibrosis. i was put on

prednisone and imuran. In early 2003 i was put on oxygen 24/7. It was 2 liters

at first, now i'm on 3 liters when i take a shower or do any kind of physical

thing. My last breath

test said I have only 30% of my lung function. I cough almost all the time and

if i don't cough often enough i lose my breath, have discomfort in my lungs and

i get panicy. my Dr. put me on actumme last month but no change yet.I also use

albuterol

inhaler and i wes prescribed oxycodone for slipped and damaged discs in my back

and i found that the oxycodone relaxes chest muscles and lets me breath much

easier.

Has anyone else used pain meds for this condition? I am wondering what the very

last stage is like. Who knows? i may already be there. hahahaha. I would love to

hear from some one who has tiis disease or a family member witl PF. thanks and

hope to hear

from you
