Guest guest
HI and all, I don't think Slippery stuff and Astroglide are made by the same companies hon. Also the ingredients are very different. Astroglide consists of purified water, glycerin, propylene glycol, polyquaternium 15, methylparaben and propylparaben. Slippery Stuff is glycerin-free, pH balanced, sterile, latex- and rubber-friendly. Vegan; no animal testing or animal by-products used in the manufacturing process. Ingredients: purified water, polethylene, carbomer, methylparaben, sodium hydroxide, DMDM hydantoin. I think one of the main reasons the Slippery stuff is free of glycerin (but in astroglide) is because that's a sugar and we know how yeast infections love sugar. Also the astroglide also has the propylene glycol and I know some people are allergic to that or it can sting. I tried the Astroglide years ago and for 'me', never again, I didn't care for it as it irritated me... but as in all things nothing suits everyone the same and we never know till we try it. Just mumbling. Dee~
Guest guest
I think Slippery Stuff and Femglide are made by the same company. I think they are the same product just with different names. I use Femglide. Sherri -------------- Original message -------------- HI and all, I don't think Slippery stuff and Astroglide are made by the same companies hon. Guest guest
Dee, I checked out this stuff because it sounded good and I wanted something slicker than crisco. Now, I'm not so sure slippery stuff would be good for someone with sensitive skin issues. That DMDM hydantoin is a formaldhyde releaser. It prevents things from growing in the product, but is also associated with alot of painful skin reactions. I have to agree with you about being hesitant to use Slippery Stuff, given its ingredients. Parabens of any kind are known endrocrine disruptors, not to mention the concerns with the ingredient that you've mentioned. I did use it at one time with no apparent sensitivity problems, but over time i had more and more problems with its consistency (got too tacky too quickly) and its smell -- which to me is awfully chemically. I've found that Nude (now reformulated slightly and renamed Firefly), is wonderful -- and organic, to boot. But it IS oil-based, which will be an issue if you use condoms or oil-sensitive toys. Guest guest
HI Dawn.... Hon I guess all you can do is try the Slippery Stuff.. esp. since it's made to be hypoallergenic and over the years I've only heard of one person that it did bother (not saying there can't be more of course) but generally it's been ok. And what you sent on about that ingredient? Hon no matter what you put in there even the very best things I've noticed something will show up as a negative. I used to be very impressed with that but no longer since I found that out... and that's usually in extreme amts. At least that's what I've found so I myself don't lend that much credit. (but that's just me) *grin*. Like I said hon... all we can do is try it and if it bothers leave it alone.. and no doubt there are things that extremely sensitive people will be allergic to that wouldn't do anything to someone else. Good luck if you try it and I sure hope it's ok. But if it makes you leery? I'd stick with whatever you've been using hon rather than take a chance. Hugs Dee~
Guest guest
HI Hollis, Hon I didn't realize you had a problem with the Slippery Stuff. Gosh I'm so sorry.... and also curious though if you ordered the Red bottle...? That might be the difference since I only used the Blue one.. and it's a thicker gel.. and never had a problem with it drying up or getting tacky. Ummmm.? plus a little saliva (being it's water based) immediately brings it right back if I were drying up a bit. (but that's me) LOL Dee, Yep -- i used the Blue one -- and still have quite a lot of it! At first i really liked it, but as i said, over time, it really started to be problematic for me. And once i started getting more savvy about chemicals in personal care products, i just couldn't continue to use it, on that basis alone. You're right about how almost every product has at least one substance that might possibly be dangerous. Trying to find a shampoo that meets all my "must not have" requirements was getting ridiculous! (I've finally found a few, thank goodness.)
