Guest guest Posted July 6, 2006 Report Share Posted July 6, 2006 hope your surgery goes well mine is on the 20th a double mastectomy as well...I wish they could have done it the next day after the news so I am not sitting home creating monsters in my head ....that surgan I meet with yesterday really got me going....it was like he was stairing me down I just wanted to cry but couldn't as he was explaning it all ...and the when he said this surgery is not 100% that it could come back and that I will have at least 8 cemo treatments plus I think hrt-2? I really should have brought a tape recorder with so I could relisten to it all it was all a fog....to much at once to take in ...my husband has not spoken too me sence....even slept in a tent in our back yard last night ,,,,great support huh.....thank God ,my parents came down for a couple days took my kids and dogs back up north with them....this is my last week at work so I want to try to put in alittle extra time , well take care nancy in minnesota Lila Hope wrote: Hi - my oncologist told me the same thing today - after the incision has healed, typically 4-6 weeks after surgery but it varies by person. Can you ask your doctor to put your treatment in writing? That way it would be easier for you to digest it. Maybe you have chemo first followed by a year of Herceptin if you're Her2neu positive. There's a good book for men called The Breast Cancer Husband. If I can be of any help or support let me know. I would be happy to make myself available to your husband. Keep in mind men are not good with dealing with problems they can not " fix " and this is not a problem he can make go away. While I was there with my wife at every step and help her through tests and surgeries, I am told many men do not suppor their wives. Encourage him to seek some help for himself. There are programs to help husbands deal with their issues so they can be more supportive. I think it varies but I got Shingles and had to postpone it a month. Ask your Doctor and make sure all your questions are answered........you have a right to have that much, at least. I finished chemo in May and started radiation.........I am almost halfway through now and am really looking forward to August when I don't have to go every day for radiation treatment. But I know the treatments will get any lingering Beasties. I have a neighbor in her eighties with lung cancer and she has taught me to call them the Beasties. We used to head up 2 different support groups and in one he would take the husbands and other support people to the cafeteria and they would share feelings etc while I kept the patients/survivors upstairs. I have found yet another lump but I can only feel it while in the shower standing up. It's about the size of a pea and doesn't seem to move a whole lot. But I am a heavy girl so can't be positive. Unfortunately my reg doc is not available today so I am going to a different doc. I don't know if it s nerves or what but I just don't have a good feeling about going to another doc or this latest lump. It just feels different than all the others. Was it that way for any of you, did it just feel different? I think I need some good R & R time to relax. Give the logic side of me time to kick in. Seems when I am tired everything is elevated emotionally. When I found the lump I called for my husband and made him feel it, just to make sure that I wasn't just feeling things, he felt it. Anyway, just wanted to see what ya'll had to say. My appointment is in 45 min. I sure hope I don't get a lets wait and see doc. Then I will have to try to politely go off and set her staight. If you get a wait and see doc. find another. and follow up with your reg. doc asap. I could feel my lumps both times laying down or standing. It must have worked because she was great My blood pressure was a little on the high side, 158/90 so she gave me something to relax. My docs case manager had already set the ball in motion and had them setting up a mammogram before I even got there. First thing tomorrow morning. Going off T3 and back to natural is not easy and many of us CAN'T. Taking T3 to clear out RT3 shoudl not change his thyroi dneeds but I ahve to wonder fi he truly was well treated on 2.5 grains before the RT3. I would wan tot see labs and BP and pulse. Something causeds that high Rt3, so what was it? Falling Ferritin due to hypo? High cortils due to stress from being hypo? Last year I was that desperate for him that I swapped him over to NT from t4. Didn't even think that rt3 was important because there is only a couple of pages on it in the STTM book. Meanwhile all my sisters were coming back with rt3. After 5 months I finally managed to get it tested. Its been hard trying to get tests when you don't have a doc and not much money. I brought a zrt saliva test he could not do it. Not enough saliva. Funny you should mention High cortisol I really think he has it. I spoke about his high BP last week. Now this only came on around the seventh week. My theory is that when he had to t4 in his blood even just a little bit it help his adrenals cope with the t3. Now that all the t4 gone it has shot his blood pressure up. His BP in the morning now is 150/85 and that high for him. Its should be around 120/70. It takes all day to come down. At at at night it is back to normal. We have tried adding t3 at night and having less t3 at night nothing has work. The good news is they he is actually doing a sabre sciences saliva test today. So we should know what is going on. I have done all this backwards. I think he will definetly need more than 2.5 grains if he ever gets back to NT. And thats a big IF.
