Guest guest
I had a lumpectomy, so i'm not sure about what to wear home in case of a mastectomy...but the lag time for me, between surgury and chemo was 1 month. good luck marisa --- manzanita339 wrote: > When I'm discharged from the hospital should I pack > something that is > big and baggy to wear home (without bra)? Guest guest
Hi a, you should have a big shirt with buttons down the front. There are camisoles you can get that have special pockets for the drain(s) you'll have for 5-10 days. I only had one drain (I wasn't very big to begin with), so they taped it to my side. My torso was wrapped in a big ace bandage, which I unwrapped and rewrapped after showers. I kept it on for a few weeks and I think it helped prevent fluid buildup. I had a couple of weeks before I started chemo. They want to make sure there are no open wounds. -
Guest guest
Hi a – I had reconstruction at the same time as the mastectomy. I also had a lift done on my “good” breast. I had drains for my stomach – from where they took the tissue for my new breast – but no drains for my breasts. All this to tell you that they had me wear a “surgical bra” home with the suggestion of getting some sports bras to keep the area nice and tight for a while. If you’re not getting reconstruction (or at least right away), I don’t know why you would need a bra, but I was told to wear baggy clothes and a shirt that buttons or zips up the front. mastectomy questions When I'm discharged from the hospital should I pack something that is big and baggy to wear home (without bra)? Guest guest
a – I forgot the 2nd question – My stomach incision didn’t heal right, so I had to wait about 2 ½ months before I started chemo. mastectomy questions When I'm discharged from the hospital should I pack something that is big and baggy to wear home (without bra)? Guest guest
a: I swiped one of my husband's XL shirts (I'm a 6) that was ancient. It was just a plain man's button down cotton shirt, but because it was OTD (Older-Than-Dirt : ) it was very soft. I was 6 weeks post-op before I started chemo...got a port put in on a Monday, and chemo on Tuesday. I imagine the timetable will vary according to your health and docs preferences. I had a lumpectomy, hysteroscopy, D & C, and tubal ligation one week (I was multitasking : ) and ended up having a mastectomy the next week so I guess that's why I got a little extra heal time (because oy!) Oh, I'd definitely skip the bra I think : ) Hope all goes well with you.. - Jen > When I'm discharged from the hospital should I pack something that is > big and baggy to wear home (without bra)? My Dr told me to use a belt to hold drains straps. I don't have to have chemo. Good luck and God bless. Take care. Chantal
Guest guest
I took along an oversize tshirt. I was able to put it on, but in retrospect, something that buttoned would have been a lot easier that first day. I'm still wearing my tshirts (just had my double mastectomy on Sept 13), because I think it is good physical therapy, getting myself to stretch a bit to put them on. Guest guest
a, I usually see people healing for a month prior to chemo, but it can be two weeks. We had one patient who got the reconstruction after Adria/Cytoxan (during Taxol/Herceptin) and she had no time off at all! -for the second surgery. I don't recommend that.
