Guest guest
Hi Debbie and welcome. We do/did have a few ladies with Paget's. I am sorry you went so long before getting the right diagnosis. Remember that breast cancer is NOT the death sentence it was once thought to be. I will keep you in my prayers. You ladies are right, the waiting is the hardest part. I have had a sore on my left nipple since the summer of 2004. My family doc thought is was dermatitis. After many creams and no results, I just figured it was something I had to live with. In April of this year I got an e-mail from a friend of mine (you know the kind, warning you of some hidden danger out there)telling a sister's story of Paget's Breast Cancer. It starts with a rash like sore on the nipple. After reading this e-mail I went to my family Dr. Her husband was the one to see me that day and when I told him about the e-mail, he stormed out of the room and said " Damned internet " . Well, that damned internet probably saved my life. I then went to a dermatologist who after 5 weeks of creams did a skin punch biopsy, which came back as Paget's. I had a mammogram and MRI at the Clevbeland Clinic Breast Center and they cannot find any underlying cancer, but they said because of the Paget's they know it is there somewhere. It is probably just very small they said.So I had to make the choice, remove my nipple and radiation or mastectomy. I have decided to have the lumpectomy and radiation. Although the mammogram and MRI were clear, I am scared to death that when they go in there they are going to find cancer everywhere. I am scheduled to have my surgery 9/18, the day after my 43rd birthday. Has anyone here had Paget's? I have spent hours and hours reading things on the internet, but it would help to talk to someone that has had it. I am scared that since I have had the problem for over 2 years that cancer is all over my body. I do not sleep very well, even with prescribed meds. I have 2 teenage sons that I would like to see as grown men with famlies of their own. This is so scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Hi Debbie – I haven’t had Paget’s, but I know that scary feeling of thinking the cancer has spread throughout your body. I originally had a lumpectomy, but my margins weren’t clear. Went back and had a mastectomy and the pathology report came back good. I was still send to an oncologist and he recommended 4 treatments of chemo to be on the safe side. Have you been to an oncologist, or are you waiting until after the surgery and your pathology report? new to this sisterhood Hi, My name is Debbie and I was just diagnosed on July 21st with breast cancer. Guest guest
I went to a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist. They have told me I will have to do radiation after surgery, probably 5 weeks. That is what scares me, if they do not get clear margins and have to go into another surgery. I just keep telling myself, as long as I do not have to do Chemo, I can handle anything. Thank you for your reply. Guest guest
Hi Debbie and welcome! I did not have Pagets, but would agree with you that THIS is the scariest part of the whole thing. Radiation is not that bad (just finished my 33 treatments) and although Chemo is rough, you just get through it. I also had similar feelings about cancer being " everywhere " ! It's scary - will agree. Best you (we all) can do with this diagnosis is limit the odds of recurrance - i think. And pray a lot. Tell me - do they grade you as well as stage you for this diagnosis? Although I was a stage 1, no lymph node involvement, her2-nu neg and est pos, I was also a Grade 3 (which means poorly differentiated) so that is why I had to have the Chemo with the radiation. Best of luck with everything ahead of you. Hang in there and keep believing! Ellen > > Hi, > My name is Debbie and I was just diagnosed on July 21st with breast > cancer. Guest guest
I can understand your fear of chemo, it was the only news that really made me cry. I think it was because it finally made everything real to me. Plus what we talked about that there still may be cancer after two surgeries and reconstruction. In the end, the chemo was harsh, but if I have to do it again, I will. Good luck! new to this sisterhood > > Hi, > My name is Debbie and I was just diagnosed on July 21st with breast > cancer.
