I live in Northern California, just outside of Sacramento. I am 56 years old. I found a lump this past June and had a fine needle biopsy. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer of the right breast.I had a lumpectomy two weeks later. The pathology report came back with two additional sites and the margins were not clear. Three weeks later I had a modified radical mastectomy. The path report showed no node involvement and ER+, PR+, and Her2-. Three weeks ago I met with the Oncologist. She at first recommended AC chemo. She asked if I would be interested in having the ONCOtype Dx test done, as I was a perfect choice for the test (node-,ER+, PR+, and Her2-). As I understand it, if the test comes back with a low score (low probability of reoccurrence, then I will not have to have chemo. I will only have to do 5 years of Arimidex. I see the oncologist Friday morning for the test results. Is anyone familiar with the ONCOtype DX test? Guest guest
Hi , I also had invasive ductal carcinoma, hormone positive, negative node involvement. I had a mastectomy May 2005. I had the Oncotype DX test and mine came back with a very low score; eight. I had no chemo and I'm a year into five years on tamoxifen. I would have had chemo if not for the test. ~ Francine __________________________________ wrote: Is anyone familiar with the ONCOtype DX test? Guest guest
Hello Francine, I just read the info on that test. It looks like if you are estrogen positive usually no chemo. But you had a mastectomy so maybe that is why. I did not have a mastectomy. I had a lumpectomy, radiation and I am on Arimidex. Guest guest
Francine, The oncologist's first reccomendation was for chemo. I'm hoping for a low score so that I can skip chemo. I'm post menopausal, so the treatment will be Arimidex. No matter whether I have chemo or not, I will be have a prophylactic mastectomy on the other side and then recomstruction as soon as I can. I'm on pins and needles today, Tomorrow is too far away. <VBG> > > Is anyone familiar with the ONCOtype DX test? > > Thanks, > >
Guest guest
Hi My oncologist was recommending I have A/C, 4 visits 3 weeks apart but was leaving the decision up to me. She gave me the pros and cons and I was having a real hard time deciding if the possible side effects and benefits, which she showed me on paper, were worth going through with the treatment. As we were talking she suddenly mentioned the oncotype testing and suggested that I have it done to help me in making my decision. She explained this was a new test that not all insurance companies have approved yet but she felt it worthwhile to have it done on my tissue. She was very excited when she got the results. She said that I was at a low risk for a reoccurence based on this test. She said this was excellent news as this company is very, very careful about their testing and results. At this point she took the decision out of my hands and told me to just go ahead with the radiation. So, for me, even if my insurance company ends up not approving the expensive, it will be well worth paying for this myself. I got a letter and brochure from the company yesterday explaing how they will work with the insurance company to get it paid for and if not they will work with you to set up affordable payments. You can go see their website here: www.oncotypedx.com Best of luck, I say it is definitely worth it to help you feel a little better about any decion you make.
