Guest guest
This touches on a subject we never really face head on. How can I be attractive/sexy when I have all of these scars, or all of this baggy skin, or these heavy thighs or whatever? All I can say, is based on years of experience and a good number of boyfriends, is that guys are easy. I don't mean they're all promiscuous. What I mean is that even though I've never been beautiful, or even " cute " I've managed to keep men interested in me sexually. I learned fairly early on that although men like to look at pretty ladies with perfect bodies, they also are very happy to have a willing, responsive partner next to them who's not perfect. If your husband did see the tape of you modeling the sexy lingerie, he wouldn't see it the way you do. Those wrinkles and rolls might seem to fade into the background, as he saw how eager you were to do something to please him. Two men have seen me since the panniculectomy from hell and the surgery on my thighs and breasts. (That's in addition to the arms and and a very long cut up and down my belly.) I look like I've been run over by a series of dump trucks. Guess what? Both of them responded to me sexually, and I responded to them. They both cared a lot more about what I was whispering in their ears, or what my body did when they touched me in the right way, than they cared about the scars. Of course, I went through a pretty complicated screening process before I got to that point with either one of them. If they'd seemed shallow or stupid, I would have sent them packing. I've always gone out with men who were a little older than me, and maybe that helps them appreciate me more. I don't know. Anyway, the point is that instead of looking at my flaws, they both focused on my assets (insert your own jokes here, folks.) Well, I guess some of my friends can " do the math " and figure out that I've had two partners in a fairly short period of time. I have to tell all of you that when lying in a hospital bed and wondering if I'd ever get out, I didn't find myself thinking " God, I wish I'd changed the oil in my car more often. " I did sometimes wish I'd had more fun, gone out with more people, seen more things, had more experiences, etc. - not nearly as " experienced " as this implies - really, I swear
Guest guest
Like I was just saying, I dont think we can get into the erotics and judge fairly whether our bodies are desireable but we can believe our men when they do and get into them etc. Oh, I have the same problem, I've had some younger men come on to me and it scares the daylights out of me cuz I KNOW whats under these clothes... I just think they're humoring a lonely old woman! I think they can sense fear too, and somehow I'm keeping them away. It'll take a pretty brave fellow to scales these walls. Lord knows, it has been such a long time. hugzzz flo
Guest guest
I have to confess...my experience with men is limited. I have only had 2 boyfriends in my life, and married the second one when I was 30 and nearly 500 lbs. I was also a virgin on our wedding night. (Waits while everyone stands up....lol). And from the night my hubby met me, he thought that I was beautiful. I felt like a troll. And huge ugly troll. And he just saw the woman that he loved. And he still does. Sure, the weight loss has enhanced certain areas of our relationship, but he doesn't care about the saggy butt, or sharpei thighs, or bat wings from hell...he just loves me. I still have a tough time understanding what he sees in me, but believe you me...he loves all of it. And I am SO blessed to have this man...a man whom I love..despite his faults, wrinkles, scars and flaws, too. The saying love is blind is very true. But in more ways than one. Guest guest
This is a subject that hits home hard for me...and obviously for many of us. All I've ever wanted (all any of us really want) is to meet someone who'd love me just as I am...fat and all. I didn't have surgery so I'd look better, but I know I look better. I didn't have surgery so men would find more attractive, but they do find me more attractive. I also know that part of the reason they find me more attractive is because I'm more confident...I feel sexier; therefore I am sexier. But flirting with someone is one thing, and getting naked with him is something entirely different! When I look in the mirror, it's still very difficult for me to see the changes in my body because most of the time I still see that 458-pound woman. I don't always see how far I've come because I'm too tuned into how far I still want to go. It's a struggle for me to love my body, so how can I expect anyone else to love it? I appreciate the open honesty of you ladies. It helps SO much just knowing that I'm not alone. 5/7/99 - 458 lbs. Current Weight - 250 lbs. http://hometown.aol.com/lauralee5799/index.html I'm preparing for extended abdominoplasty (including flank excision) and mastopexy. Guest guest
Oh no! WE work at thinking we're OK. Even those who DO have perfect bodies don't think so. That's our societal training--never QUITE good enough. After all, if you ever got there, you wouldn't need to BUY anything, right? The whole economy could collapse if women ever had any personal appearance self-esteem. LOL! I'm not convinced we will ever see ourselves on a daily basis as lovely, however, I've come to grips with what I have. It's what I have, but I will ALWAYS think it needs improvement! Thanks, www.vitalady.com Re: Thinking about wrinkles/scars/flaws > > This is a subject that hits home hard for me...and obviously for many of us. Guest guest
Hey grads, Great thread on the body image issues! I don't know whether this analogy will help anyone but for those having trouble accepting the wrinkles, scars, flaws etc. or for those questioning that anyone else might 'settle' or be desirous of your wrinkled self with all your 'flaws'..... you might try an exercise called, My Body-My Castle. Unless you are in a temporary living situation most people are settled into and pretty happy and comfortable with their homes(otherwise they move, duh!) It doesn't matter whether it's a palace(McMansions notwithstanding)and it doesn't have to be perfect. In fact most homes, have a fair share of warts and wrinkles but we love them anyway, right? We are comfortable in them and they house the 'stuff' we treasure and the people we love. Most of us really do think our home is our very own castle. So if you are having trouble accepting the body you live in- try looking at the house you live in. How did you come to accept all the flaws there? Why do you think it's so cute and why do you enjoy stringing twinkling lights all over it in December and barbecuing by it in the summer? And when you see that beautiful nest at the end of a long and weary day...well how does it make you feel? Ya gotta love it! Right? And it gives you a great big warm fuzzy, right? The bodies we live in are pretty much the same only more so. Ya gotta love your intricate and amazing body everyone! It's adorable, delicate and a complicated machine. In the entire living kingdom we have the coolest and most amazing bodies. Cars work well for this exercise also in case you have a temporary housing situation you dislike but a cool car! No car is perfect but many of us really love our cars! And like an incredibly dependable car our bodies carry us safely over many miles, absorbing all the abuse we put it through and still going. I think of mine as a vintage Ferrari since my surgery (Probably could have bought a used one for all the $$ I've cost my insurance company!). I've got alot of mileage and quite a few dings. I need premium gas all the time and I have to take myself into the shop way more often than I'd like to but what a ride I'm gettin " ! Wheeeeeoooo! I'm flying out here! So fly people! Get good gas and Flyyyyyyyyyy! Carol Shrinkin' in Philly

Guest guest
Dan, now it's my turn. You are so right. My husband met me when I was 300 lbs. He never even saw the weight. He did get really concerned as my wt increased over the next few years up to 463 lbs. He never said " I want a model for a wife with a perfect body " . In his eyes, my body was perfect but the health issues started up. So, he supported the decision for the surgery because he wants me around for a little while longer.... He is my biggest supporter, scars, saggy, baggy skin..... Today as before, he still can't keep his hands off of me. I am still running away sometimes though because like a lot of women, I go through those times where I feel unattractive. Yep, I am gonna try seeing myself through his eyes. I think this may help me through *those days*.\ Thanks Rita in Vermont it is about a connection with > another human being for whom > exceptionally strong emotional ties of trust and > intimacy, not to say > respect, admiration and genuine bonding exists that > sexual attraction is > based in the main. Guest guest
Yeah yeah, that's all nice but while I'm being so " lovely " I'd like to look like Calista Flockhart. LOL No bumps, rolls, or scars, well I don't want her chest, I want Pamela s on Calista Flockharts body. That would be my dream, like my previous post, we can dream, right? In the mean time the only person other than me who sees this body better have a medical degree. I just can't stand the thought of exposing anyone to the horror that this " shell that houses my soul " has become. Even with plastics it won't be pretty but I do want it to resemble normal when wearing clothes. And that's how I will let everyone see it. Fully clothed. I do admire those who feel the confidence to share with their SO all the flaws they feel they have. That takes a lot of trust and faith in the person you're with. That's a beautiful thing and I rejoice in your good fortune to have that. hugs, Ramoth > > Yep, there is a lot of truth in the statement earlier that guys tend to be > > easy, and yes I do agree that love is > > Sometimes blind on occasion - but pullleeze - beyond age 25 and with some > > maturity being expected, > ********** we always HOPE they will turn out like this > > why is > > it that we all get lumped into a " category " that decides whether or not > the > > attractiveness of our mates/lovers/significant others is contingent on the > > concept of physical desirability based on some societal projection of > > attractiveness? > *********** probably the same society that tells us we are misfits if we do > not fit the mold. > > > > Here is the deal girls, listen up! Guest guest
Dan, What great comments! OKAY, Gals and Guys, listen up: WHAT DAN said is so true! True love does not see the weight. I met my hubby when I weighed ~165 when we got married I was 180. And it kept climbing: 20 more before I got pregnant, 50 during the pregnancy, etc. We all know THAT story. Any way, I eventually got up to 350. As was the case with Rita, my hubby has been my greatest supporter of my WLS and subsequent loss. I had a family picture taken in July 98 (9 months before WLS) when I was about at my highest weight. looks at that portrait and says he doesn't believe I was ever THAT big. Bless his soul! Also like Rita, " he...can't keep his hands off of me. I am still running away sometimes though because like a lot of women, I go through those times where I, " er, ...have a " headache.
Guest guest
<<I learned fairly early on that although men like to look at pretty ladies with perfect bodies, they also are very happy to have a willing, responsive partner next to them who's not perfect. I look like I've been run over by a series of dump trucks. Guess what? Both of them responded to me sexually, and I responded to them. They both cared a lot more about what I was whispering in their ears, or what my body did when they touched me in the right way, than they cared about the scars.>> You said this beautifully! I showed this post to my husband and he couldn't have agreed more. It just kills me to see women suffering over body image issues when what their men really want has precious little to do with the appearance of their skin.
