Guest guest
Has anyone ever come across anything conclusive about the possibility of toxins, such as mercury, being present in fish oil? I seem to recall reading that you can buy really expensive fish oil that comes from fish in the northern Scandinavian waters that is toxin free (such as the stuff used by the Mayo Clinic study that started it all). But that stuff is really expensive. Omocor or something like that. I fish the Great Lakes (especially Erie) every year and I just catch and release. I don't eat these fish because of past pollution. I wonder where most of the fish in fish oil comes from? 12 a day is a massive quantity compared to what normal people take. I don't mean to scare anybody; I use the el cheapo stuff ($7 for 300 at Sam's Club) myself. > > i would like to know if any of > > > u had any benefit by taking them... > > > > > > thx > > > priya > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > To edit your settings for the group, go to our Yahoo Group > > home page: > > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iga-nephropathy/ > > > > To unsubcribe via email, > > iga-nephropathy-unsubscribe > > Visit our companion website at www.igan.ca. Guest guest
A few months ago Consumer Reports did an article and review of fish oil. I know it covered some polutants, I don't know if it covered mercury.
Guest guest
There is a wonderful site devoted to testing " alternative " type products for purity and analyzing claims made for such substances. Unfortunately, I don't remember what the name of the site is - if it comes back to me, I'll let you know. They were a reasonably trustworthy entity so I shelled over $20 bucks for their really exhaustive reports on testing the purity of various fish oil preps. Everything came back reasonably clean looking. However, my research was 2 years ago. We live in the SF Bay area. A dear friend likes to take A. fishing - we are strictly catch and release as well.
