Guest guest
Thanks, Jen! I was really wondering about that! in Va. ml (millimeter) and cc (cubic centimeter) are the same amounts - they are interchangeable. jen
Guest guest
HI, , Thanks for your comments. She's doing the non-fasting glucose because often the fasting glucose doesn't pick up diabetes, whereas the non-fasting does. This is what she told me. And I asked for the homocysteine because I'd heard it's a better indicator than cholesterol. She said it's not better, it's just another indicator, just as the cardiac reactive protein. But it's good to check the B12-folic acid too. I know the B12 should be OK, due to the vitamins I take and the shots (although I skip alot of months on the shots). The folic acid is usually good due to the salads with dark greens I eat. We'll see. in Va. VERY comprehensive ! Only thing that I see is hopefully she's doing the non-fasting glucose separately from your lipids, because the cholesterols have to be fasting to be correct, for sure. Glad to see she's running that homocysteine because it will have everything to do with your B12-Folic Acid status.
Guest guest
The homocysteine level is DEFINITELY the better indicator of folic acid status. Doa search anywhere, and you will see this. The serum levels aren't as good as the red blood cell folate level, but, when in doubt, the homocysteine is the telling one. She doesn't know her stuff, when it comes to this, unless you're referring to the homocysteine as compared to something else. The cholesterols can be a telling thing about hypothyroidism. But, for just the sake of getting your correct cholesterol levels, those have got to be fasting, or they're not going to be accurate at all. These things really don't have anything to do with thyroid in themselves. The random blood glucose is not as good as the fasting one, but the GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test), where you sit and drink that sweet stuff starting at " 0 " hour, then they draw blood every so often while you sit, is still the best test for diabetes. it takes up more time than the other tests, though, in the office. Guest guest
Thanks, . I had asked my doctor to check the homocysteine level as a heart disease indicator because I'd heard that it was a better indicator than cholesterol. That's when she said it wasn't any better. Just another way to test. The last time my folic acid was checked it was at the very top of the range. I will be fasting for everything except the postprandial glucose. I have to return 2 hours after eating breakfast. in Va. The homocysteine level is DEFINITELY the better indicator of folic acid status. Doa search anywhere, and you will see this.
