At my fall mammogram, on my left side (where cancer tumors were found), there were new microcalcifications, so I had a needle biopsy

I am SOOOO glad you had them look at this with biopsy...

I do not believe in watching anything...I want to know NOW...

and take action NOW if it is necessary....

Hi everyone, I had a mammogram done on May 5- I received a letter from the diagnostic where they do the x-rays and it stated" that the breast area is probably benign; but they recommend another mammogram in six months November 17, 2006. What do you ladies think? Is there something there that is growing? Why would they say that area is benign? I have a call into my onc. but haven't heard from him. I guess I need your input. Sharon,

It sounds to me like they aren't quite sure. I would definitely keep calling the oncs office till you get an answer from him. You are in my prayers.

Hi Sharon, I would get a second opinion. Get a second mamo or even better have your doc. order a mri. If there is anything there you should get it checked out to make sure it is not cancer. Not meaning to scare you. But I had been having reg. mamograms every 6 months for the first four years after my first bought w/cancer. Then, every year up unitl about two ago when I found another lump. They weren't sure about the lump in my breast because of all the tissuse damage from radiation. I had a lot of dense tissue in my breast. The doct ordered an MRI. Just don't wait for 1/2 a year to go by before knowing exactly what is going on.

It's hard to say since they only said the 'area' is benign, but it sounds like good news. Don't worry too much as many a time I have had to go in six months and even sometimes, three months, and nothing was wrong. And when they suspected something, they did an ultra-sound right away.........no waiting around and right in the same chair. Ultra sound is the best way to tell if it is a lump or whatever.

Good luck and keep up the good attitude.

Hi Sharon,

I had a similar reading on my recent mammogram. I have

microcalcifications (had them in both breasts). That in inself is not

suppose to be malignant, but they do watch it and have a baseline. If

you have new microcalcifications, then they want to investigate

further.

At my fall mammogram, on my left side (where cancer tumors were found),

there were new microcalcifications, so I had a needle biopsy. I had my

6-month follow-up on my right side - still had the same

microcalcifications, and since they hadn't changed my report was

"probably benign" but do a 6-month follow-up.
