After orientation concerns

First off thank you to Laurie Warner for her info on the Cpap machine. This is a great group.

However, now I have just come from Orientation at Point West and I am a bit put off. Not by the surgery but because I was told that sleep apnea isn't a definate approval and that the wait time is nearly a year and a half. I thought things were running so smoothly. The timeframe I was given was:

2-3 months from today for the approval

2-3 months after that for for a date with the surgeon

loose the 10% and once that is done get a date for surgery aproximately a year out.

Is this reality? Cause if it is I need to prepare myself. We are now talking about a year and a half. I really thought this was a bit smoother and would be less than a year. Thanks for any input you all have.

I met with my PCP on December 2003, was approved May

26th, my orientation is tomorrow morning and my

meeting with the surgeon on Oct 30. I may have my

surgery in the next few months. So anticipate 1 year.

Be patient, but also take the time to educate yourself

and understand, there is no reason to hurry into this,

youre changing your life and lifestyle. Big steps take

a lot of baby steps to reach.

Look forward to each baby step, and celebrate reaching

the big steps.

Hi ,

As is too common these days, I am way behind in answering my e-mail, so

others have probably responded to your quetion. Nonetheless . . .

No, I don't think that those time estimates are accurate. The approval

letters seem to be coming out fairly quickly these days - and even back

last year, it only took about 2 or 3 weeks for me to get my approval

letter. The wait for an orientation appointment, unfortunately, is

longer and 2-3 months sounds about right. How long it takes you to

lose the 10% is up to you - but surgery dates are being scheduled that

are much closer in than a year.

It is not uncommon for the entire process to take about a year. It has

taken longer for some - especially those who have had to appeal or who

have had other health issues - and it has been quicker for some of us.

For me, it was only about 6 months from approval to surgery - I really

lucked out.

Take care,

Kay
