Guest guest Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Hi Jolene, I had AC and had low counts for my red blood cells. I ended up needing a shot every 2 weeks (at my treatment). I took iron supplements and ate more red meat. AC can also cause your white blood cells to drop, but I was automatically given a shot the day after each treatment so my count didn't go down. You need to be extra careful to avoid sick people and make sure you get plenty of rest. take care, Quote

My onc is out of town, so I can't find out what to do next until tomorrow when I call the office, to speak to his staff. I've have done well since the chemo, at least I thought, until about last wednesday, started filling a little more fatigued and coughed a wee bit, have had a little pain in my right foot that I thought was from being back a work, since I'd been off for a little bit. But now I'm wondering. On 2 separate occasions I ran a low grade fever, but it did drop and the onc said if it got to 101 to go to the hospital immediately, these fevers would get to about 99.8 and then drop, and was fine the next day. Big Sigh....not sure what is next, any of you experience any of these problems with A/C Chemo???? Thinking of you all, Jolene Quote
Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 HI Jolene, I start my chemo a/c on Wednesday. Wish me luck eh?? I'm also on Iron for chronic anemia. And it really helps the fatigue. Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 Hi Jolene, My white count also dropped while on AC. In my situation (I am in a clinical trial using AC followed by Taxol+Herceptin), I had to have a wbc of 1.5 in order to have chemo. I had to delay one week when my count went to .7. My count came up after one week delay, and I had all subsequent AC treatments, using Nulasta injections. The Nulasta boosts your wbc, and you inject them every day for 1 to 4 days, starting the day after chemo. I guess like everything else, it depends on how your Dr. decides to give it to you! The danger with a low wbc is infection. Be very careful around people, stay away from sick people, and wash your hands all the time. If your temp goes to 101, you do need to go to the ER. They will most likely admit you and give IV antibiotics. This did not happen in my case, although I know quite a few who had to be admitted to the hospital. My onc advised not to eat any fresh fruits or veggies that could not be pealed or cooked, as bacteria could be lurking. Good luck and take care. Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 Hi, I am new here and have been lurking for the past few days. My name is and I am at the end of my chemo treatment. I had BC left side, lumpectomy with imediate reconstruction (which is wonderful, BTW, new 18 year old breasts). I just turned 38 yo. I was staged as Stage IIb, histo grade II, ER+/PG+ and HER-2 neg. I had 4 A/C plus 4 Taxol dose-dense protocol. During A/C I was very sick, but never had infections (except for a UTI once) since I was taking Filgastrim to support my immune system. So, basically, I only had low count when I was off the immuno support, but it wasn't a big deal. I did get feverish, but never over 37.5 C (or 99.5F) at which point my doctor said to call him immediately. I was also prohibited to go t some places like movie theatres, or theatres, or swimming pools and such. A pain, actually. It ended up that I did go to a movie and nothing happened, but I was using a mask to protect me. It seems that every one has a different reaction to these drugs. I for once had muscle pain every time for a few days besides the sickness. And the fatigue is normal and it does get worse with every A/C treatment. So hang in there! Guest guest Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 Hi, and Thank you , , Sandy, adn nne. As you've mentions Doc told me no Veggies or Fruits, and I've been put on leave of absence from work to avoid crowds and such. Big Sigh, Guess I'll have to find something to do at home to keep me busy...Must keep tabs of any fever as mentioned. I'll be going in again on the 12th to check the count, and if all goes well chemo #2. So we shall see what will be done after the 12th, in the meantime I must be a good girl...Thank you for thinking of me and the information, it has been very helpful... Take Care all, Jolene Quote

Guest guest Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 It is amazing hoe people can be so inconsiderate to be upset by you being off work when you need! They must think that cancer treatment is a breeze! So sorry for you having to go through this, but your health comes first.
