Guest guest Posted June 21, 2006 Report Posted June 21, 2006 Have your tried Boric Acid suppositories? They are suppose to work on BV and yeast, although I am wondering if they would make your burning worse. Who is the other specialist you could see? I am on another list and there was some discussion about Peacock last year and it wasn't favorable. I've had external burning 24/7 for years and the only thing that has helped it is estradiol, but I am 49 and perimenopausal. I hope you find something that helps soon. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Borc acid was pretty painful. I used an estrogen cream as well and that was pretty pointless. I've canned the peacock iea because she doesnt take insurance and the 1st consultation is 350 bucks. This is hard to treat because Yeast and BV have only come up on 3 of the many many many cultures I've had in the past 2 years. At one oint BV grew on one culture so a dr. prescribed flaggel pills for a month. While I was on flaggel pills for a month, I continued to have the cyclical burning and discharge. I've contacted Amy Stein of NY who is a physical therapist for vulvodynia...who knows? They take insurance at her place....im pretty desperate so I'm open..... > > > Have your tried Boric Acid suppositories? Guest guest Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 I use boric acid suppositories if I get a yeast infection. The first day it may burn a little but then it improves it traumatically. I do not use straight boric acid. I use a product called Yeast Arrest. Quote
Guest guest Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 Just for temporary relief you might try putting water into the fingers of a rubber glove, freezing it, and insert the frozen finger into your vagina. I am sorry you are in such pain. Arline __________________________________________________ Quote
Guest guest Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 You know that you can submit the claim yourself for payment, after the visit, right? Get the docs office to give you the standard claim form, or get it from your insurance company and present the claim yourself. You will be paid. You will need the Docs to complete their portion or give you the info necessary over the phone to complete their portion. You'd have to come up with the initial fee and subsequent fees up front, but you will be re- imbursed. How long did you use estrogen cream and how did you use it. Did you use it topically on the vulva or internally in the vagina? Often, it takes quite a long time (weeks and maybe a few months) for the Estrace to do it's job , depending on the condition of your skin now. I know that nothing I tried worked overnight or even in a week or two. It's a long process. Cyclical burning and discharge just aboutscreams hormonal problems. Have your had your hormones checked and your thyroid checked (your thyroid regulates all your other hormones). If there is an imbalance there, you could no doubt reduce some of your probelms by bringing thyroid and hormones into balance. Are you on birth control of any kind? I know that when I used a heavily unbalance estrogen progesterone combination of hormones (in my case for menopause) I got into trouble with the progesterones with that thick almost creamy, very burning, white discharge. It was searing my skin - so I found a different way to get my hormones in balance, by using the estrogen daily and the prog. only 12 days - every 2 to 3 months, instead of every month. Worked like a charm Have you considered taking antishistamines on a regular basiss (before you go to bed) to see if perhaps there is some allergic component. If the pills help reduce the burning - you could be dealing with a n allergy. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 I had to go on the candida diet and take antifungals. After 4 months of that, my burning and itching went away. Now as long as I watch what I eat, I have no burning or itching. If I dont take care of myself, it comes back. I also use Yeast Arrest Boric Acid Suppositories if I get symptoms of yeast. This all started after I went on the birth control pill. I have since gone off of it. Quote
Guest guest Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 I did not know I could submit the claim myself. Thank YOU! I have not had my hormone levels checked. How do I do that? I went off the pill permanatly in October. I only used the estrogen cream for a few days....I used it internally since I have no external symptoms. My burning is no longer cyclical. Since the end of March I have been burning daily. I miss the days of coming and going..at least I had relief then! > > > > > > Have your tried Boric Acid suppositories? I am wondering if you are allergic to something?? Whether it be food, tampons, pads, soap etc. Please switch to natural products and no perfumed things down there. Has your doctor suggested a hormone test to see if you are low on estrogen?? Ask about using an estrogen cream or Vagifem. I wish I had the answer, in my case I am post meno and don't have much estrogen. I go through periods that I itch and burn for no reason as well. In fact, I am going through it right now. Is your mate using anything on himself that may be causing you discomfort? Quote

Guest guest Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 Hi-- I am curious to hear more about your experience with the candida diet. This is my second time around with vulvar burning and itching...the first time around the candida diet took care of it--the symptoms were gone after about 2 weeks. This time around I tried it again, for 20 days, and didn't feel anything. Out of frustration and pain, I eased up. My doctor said if it was going to help me I would have felt better after 2 weeks...but I hear of people like yourself for whom it takes longer than that. It was several months before you felt a change in your symptoms? What kind of antifungals did you take? I'd love to hear more. > > I had to go on the candida diet and take antifungals. Guest guest Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 The burning began while I was on the pill. Today I had an appointment in NYC at the beyond the basics Physical Therapy clinic of Amy Stein. This place recommends that I go once or twice a week for at least six months. Meaning I would have to spend 200 bucks a month on physical therapy to help cure my vulvodynia....I almost feel like its a scam? My first two visists will cost me 150 bucks because they are out of network..I simply can't afford it...I mean, I've heard PT works for women with pelvic floor disease. Still.... despite the fact that my cultures come back negative I am convinced especially since I have discharge, that my symptoms are caused by some underlying infections. Reccurent infections. And so where and how does PT fit in there? The woman I met with really didn't explain or help to diagnose me and seemed to be unwilling to say that based on her examination that I indeed I was a candidate for this form of therapy. I told my dr. about novaral and he said he'd call in a prescription for me and who knows? maybe it will help. In the meantime I have an appointment with a specialist Dr. Baker (Long Island) at the end of july. He is an in network provider for whom I will only pay $35 bucks per visit...My burning is not so bad today so I feel more optomistic...Discharge is pretty thick and yeasty though....I tried difulcan, terazal, monostat, and gynolotramin....Maybe Novaral will help.... > > > > > > > > > > > > Have your tried Boric Acid suppositories? Guest guest Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 , what brand of pills were you on.? So you stopped the BC pills in October - are you using some other form of birth control now - for example a hormone realated IUD or the Depo Provera shot or anything like that? Some pills are so heavy in progesterones that they cause heavy discharge. THis happened to me. Please, please remember that more discharge doesn't necessarily mean yeast. Many women on this list have gone down that path only to find that it wasn't yeast after all. Keep an open mind... you could be having a allergic discharge reacting to spermicide, douches, - or a million other things. You could be having BV, or strep or heaven knows what else. Guest guest Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 I've had both cultures done yeast and BV...so who knows? BV showed up one time in the past three years. I am on NO birth control and I can;t have sex without burning so I don't have sex. And though this may be gross, i can't stand to see the discharge during sex either so its a turn off. My relationship with my live-in boyfriend is struggling as account of the no-sex policy. I don't douche and use hypoallergenic soaps and detergents. My most recent culture showed yeast..but who knows what kind of yeast so I went today and had another done and itis being sent to a facility in california to help determine the type of yeast. Guest guest Posted June 23, 2006 Report Posted June 23, 2006 Good for you - maybe identifying the yeast will the start of all good things for you. IN the meantime - stop all sugars. It's very simple - no soda, candy, ice cream, cake, sugar in coffee or tea or iced tea or lemonade - anything with added sugars (cereals, etc.) and you should see some small improvement. No only did that help me while waiting for the identification of my yeast - but it also caused me to lose 8 lbs!!!!!!!!! Pls keep us posted on your culture results. Dusty P.S. It is possible that no matter what age we are we could be deficient in hormones. If this doc is working with you, can you get him/her to check your hormone levels . I don't know the details, but a non menopausal woman should have hormone levels checked at certain times of her cycle - but if you post that question here, i know there are those who know the answer. -----Original Message-----From: VulvarDisorders [mailto:VulvarDisorders ] On Behalf Of Sent: Friday, June 23, 2006 3:58 PMTo: VulvarDisorders Subject: Re: H-E-L-P I've had both cultures done yeast and BV...so who knows? Guest guest Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 - Regarding physical therapy, I have gotten relief from the burning by having PT sessions to have my pelvic floor muscle massaged and stretched. I very often go from pain level 4 to 0 in one session. I have also tried acupuncture and gotten some relief from the burning. So far, both therapies only resolve the burning for 5-6 hours.
