Guest guest
Hi Amy, It sounds like you had a wonderful trip :-) Congratulations to you on making it to Curves 15 times this month. I am SO proud of you! I had very high cholesterol before I started on zocor, but have never had a spike like you have had so I can't comment on that. Great news on the arthritis tests coming back negative! In a message dated 12/28/2004 11:08:43 PM Pacific Standard Time, purrfect@... writes: > > I'm back from vacation! Guest guest
Hi Amy! I am glad that you had a great vacation and a wonderful time. I am even impressed that you went to Curves while on vacation! I'm afraid I was very bad during the holidays in Fort McMurray...I didn't do any exercise! : ( Anyways, I'm happy to hear that your lab results are normal...i'm inclined as always to blame the pred. ; ) Sophia > > I'm back from vacation! Guest guest
Hi Amy, Great to have you back! Assuming that your proteinuria has remained constant (increased proteinuria corresponds to increased cholesterol), I'd look at what you've been eating. Has your diet changed over the holidays? I've donated blood every 10 weeks or so for the past couple of years. The donation center always mails back cholesterol levels. I'm very low year round -- except for the post-Passover spike (Passover being even more high fat than Chanukah!). Glad to hear about the arthritis results! Guest guest
Cy: Have you ever noticed that Jewish holidays are centered around the meal? This year for Hanukkah, we (Pam really) planned out the meal, gave everyone assignments, and then for the 18 people we invited (family and friends) made 2 8-pound turkey breasts (each) and a 6-pound brisket. She also made side dishes, and desserts. When everyone got here, they had their assgned dishes, plus a little something extra. We ended up with over 20 desserts for 18 people. Oy! We actually had 10 people over the next day (martyrs that we are) and we still had leftovers. I keep joking she's fattening me up for the plane crash (you know, the Andes plane crash menu). Sick, sick, sick. Cy Webb wrote: Hi Amy, Great to have you back! Guest guest
Sounds like a wonderful holiday dinner . Certainly much better than my Christmas dinner which was...nothing :-) I am sure I will make up for it next year though. Guest guest
Don't worry, I had plenty of good food on Christmas day: turkey, meat pie, mashed potatoes with gravy, cranberry sauce, turkey stuffing, wine, and on Boxing day, lots of little round sandwiches with cherries, olives or pickles in the middle (egg, pâté, cream cheese), more meat pie, more wine, meat balls. And the turkey supper will be repeated on New Year's day. I just limited my portions a bit for some things compared to what I would have done years ago (like the potatoes), and I didn't add any salt, and I avoided the cheese plate (eating too much phosphorus just causes more itching and red eye than it's worth). I also avoided things with a lot of potassium in them (like I used to smother my meat pie in ketchup, but I don't do that now, for obvious reasons). I had a bit of gravy too, but not as much as I would have in the past. The food wasn't prepared with me in mind, but, when I got to dialysis the following day (on Boxing Day, the day after Christmas), my BP was still pretty good and I was only 2.9 kilos over my dry weight, which isn't a problem at all. I even had a beer on Christmas day. I'm convinced that many of us with pre-dialysis or esrd kidney failure limit our foods more than we need to for fear of over-eating something. On special occasions, the only thing we really must not overdo is the potassium - if that's a problem, and too much sodium can make us feel uncomfortable if we retain more fluid because of it. Your mileage may vary. I know by now what I can handle, and I knew my blood was going to be cleaned the next evening at dialysis. The last treatment before X-mas, my nurse said to eat well, and they would clean me out good next time : ) Pierre Re: HI everybody...and a cholesterol question > > Thanks , it was great. Guest guest
Hi Cy, All of you and 's wonderful Jewish meals sound so good! Talk about feasting :-) I think I turned a corner yesterday finally. I ate my first mini-meal in a week last night at dinner time and did pretty well after that. Today I am up out of bed so I am definitely on the right path now. I was worried this time too! This bout had me scared. I really missed my oldest daughter and grandson because I was sick and at the hospital three of the four days they were here, but I have for another week so I will get to enjoy her. Hopefully by tomorrow I can venture out of the house even. I hope you and are enjoying his time off school. Guest guest
I think you had it right the first time ;-) None of us is perfect after all. Guest guest
Pierre I'm feeling the effects of eating too much salt at my in-laws this past week. My mother in law just didn't get the " no salt cooking " thing and well you can't not eat when she has been preparing things all week long. By the time we left on Monday my ankles were pitting they were so swollen....thankfully after a few days home and eating normal again I lost 10 lbs in water weight and my b/p settled back down into normal range again. My mother in law even has a photo of me laying on the floor with my feet straight up in the air resting on the back of one of the dinning room chairs....I could have shot her for that candid shot. ) With the exception of this past week I have been sticking to my diet...which doesn't help explain the spike in my cholesterol. Hopefully it's just a werid reading and when we retest in 3 weeks it will have settled back down. Amy G. Re: HI everybody...and a cholesterol question > > Thanks , it was great. Guest guest
Did I really say " Christmas sinner " in that last post? My fingers are flying too fast... Apologies for the typo. Here's hoping you make it out of the house tomorrow. Cy Re: HI everybody...and a cholesterol question > > Hi Cy, > > All of you and 's wonderful Jewish meals sound so good! Guest guest
Hi Amy, Same here - too much salt at my mother-in-law's (up in Northern Alberta - Fort McMurray) this past Christmas. For a week, we had her cooking too. I gained about 5 lbs in water weight...it nearly made me cry, it took so long to lose it, and then I gain it all back (and I thought it was from all that eating). Yesterday I finally made it back close to my weight before Christmas. Sophia > > Sounds like a wonderful holiday dinner .
