Guest guest
Hi, I got through my first treatment. A/C They also gave me aloxi for anti nausea. I think my intestinal track went on vacation. My appetite is a little better this evening. I ate small for most of the day. Any thoughts of your first a/c chemo treatment and how you reacted?? Soon my hair will be sleeping. Guest guest
Sandy, My first Adriamycin/Taxotere chemo treatment went pretty well. I was on a once every 3 week schedule and really enjoyed a pretty good 3 weeks. My hair started getting " loose " , but didn't fall out until after the 2nd treatment. I rarely felt any nausea, got just a bit tired at times, but nothing a short nap wouldn't fix. The biggest problem I had with the 1st treatment was horrific acid reflux - my onc advised prilosec and it worked like a charm. Took it all through treatment and never had an acid reflux problem again. So, after my first treatment, I thought, " Hey, what's all the fuss about???? This is pretty easy! " ..... Then I had my second treatment and learned the effects of chemo are cumulative. Heavy duty fatigue set in. Chemo was not easy, but it was very " doable " and I am very grateful I had the treatment I needed to write letters of encouragement to newbies, like you! Guest guest
Hi , It will be #2 a/c tomorrow for me, I bouted with little nausea off and on, but I have some pills when it starts and it usually curbs it in about 20 minutes. I also get the shot before chemo. My appetite comes and goes, I've only lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks, but for the most part no problems with the appetiite, I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones whose hair refuse to go to sleep, but as of today, it's went to sleep and is snoring real loud, should be nothing left by tomorrow. Other then that, I think the biggest problem has been my low count and fatigue, count came up this week so I'll get my 2nd chemo and no shot...whuuuuuuuuuwhooooo, we get poked enough, I wasn't looking forward to another one. I hope things go well for you in the next couple of weeks, keep thinking positive. Take Care, Jolene Got Through 1st Chemo Treatment Hi, I got through my first treatment. Guest guest
Hi, I have already done all my treatments and boy, it looks like the A/C were so long ago! I had a lot of trouble with nausea, to the point that nothing really helped except waiting. Every application got worse, I am afraid. It didn't happen this way to a friend of mine, so be positive! Take a lot of water, this is really important. Do mouth washes with water and baking soda (1quart of filtered water and a tsp of baking soda) at least 3x a day to avoid mouth washes. If you have body/muscle pain, take the time to rest, do not push yourself, because you will need the extra strength you have for the next treatments. Try to eat in small protions but more frequently. And try to not be concerned about mantaining your figure, you will only get distresses byt this. Once the treatment is over, you will slowly go back. I had a lot of heavy meds prescribed to me for nausea, but I do not even remember their names anymore. Your hair will probably begin to fall about 2 weeks after the first A/C. And your scalp may hurt a little, but for me it was't bad at all. I suggest that once it begins to fall you cut it very very short, it is less messy around the house. When my hair was too thin, I decided to shave it all and go for the scarves. I never used wigs, they are too expensive for me and I did not miss them. I am actually looking forward to see how my hair is going to look like now! I kept my eyelashes and eyebrows during A/C. They only fell with Taxol. In fact, for me, even with the nausea, A/C was not as bad as Taxol. I had a terrible tiem with it. My onc said that unfortunately I fell in the 2% of people who have severe side effects on taxol. I don't know how many A/C your are going to have, but rest as much as you can. Your body will need it. Any other questions fell free to ask, ok? Hugs and good luck! Guest guest
Hi Sandy: This is my first time on the site, althought I've been following along for a couple of weeks. I had my first A/C chemo on 5/25 and the second on 6/9. So far I've not had a bad reaction....very little nausea, made my migrains act up again, and some fatigue for the 2nd and 3rd days. I still have my hair on day 20, however, it has started to fall out some - no clumps yet--my friends say to shave it off, but it's had to do. Also, have a question for anyone out there-----I ride horses --does anyone else? and if so, what did you do to keep helmet on with no hair? Guest guest
Hi! Good for you! You probably won't have any problems! But rest whenever you body asks for it! As for the helmet... try thin scarves under it. I found out that in my case, thin scarves have a " velcro " effect and they really stick to my scalp. Good luck!
