Guest guest
Hehehehe, thanks for the return visual about spitting your food out to take a call – LOL!!!! The fact that you know you’re a gobbler is something you can start working on now to get yourself ready for life after surgery. As a post-op, at least for the first year, you won’t be able to be a gobbler or you’re right, you’ll have problems getting/keeping your food down. My job sometimes makes it difficult for me to have a normal “lunch” too, but thankfully I have my own office so if I bring my lunch back to it, I can work while I’m eating (but my phone doesn’t ring too much – my work is mostly through email). Anyway, there is quite a debate among the different Kaiser programs about whether protein drinks should be consumed post-op. As I mentioned, I went through the Pacific Bariatric program in San Diego and they INSIST that we have protein drinks every day. I normally have mine for breakfast, but if it works better with your work schedule, perhaps you should eat food for breakfast, have your protein shake for lunch so as you said, you can just sip it in between phone calls, then have a normal dinner. That may work best with your schedule. Regarding your other question about if there are foods that are prone to “getting stuck” – I think that is different for everyone. I hear that meat is generally one of the foods that people have some difficulty with, which is ironic, since that’s our best source of protein and something we should really be eating! I’ve especially heard that chicken can be difficult, although I personally have not had a problem with it. Deli sliced turkey seems to be really good for me. The couple times I’ve gotten food stuck wasn’t because of the type of food (it was always food I’d tolerated well) – it was just that I either ate too fast or didn’t chew it up good enough. Hope that helps. - Lesa - Stuck food > > Hello everyone, > Thanks so much for all the information I get from you all on a daily > basis. Guest guest
Ewwwww, not to be too gross, but I think I’d rather hurl! : - ) Er, no I haven’t tried the meat tenderizer/water thing… - Lesa - Re: Stuck food I am still pre-op but remembered reading about stuck food in my patient information binder I received at Orientation. Here is the quote from the binder: " If meat has blocked the anastomosis, try mixing a spoonful of Adolph's meat tenderizer with warm water and sip slowly. " Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work? Guest guest
Kym, if you’re a non-exempt employee, then it is illegal according to California employment laws for your company to deny you a lunch period (if you work more than a certain number of hours per day – I think it’s 5). - Lesa - Re: Stuck food I work for a small company and there is nobody to answer the phones if I'm not doing it on my shift.... so ... no I dont get a lunch break. I have to squeeze time in where I can. I guess I will have to work something out somehow. In the meantime I will practice the chewing thing while I am waiting for a surgery date. I have been practicing the sipping thing too.. since not only am I a gobbler.. I am also a guzzler. I'm not thirsty very often so I find myself chugging down tons of water to get my water for the day. Dont get me wrong.. I do have table manners. I just got into a bad habit at work and need to break it. Oh... I wasnt serious about living on soup... it was a joke.. Guest guest
I actually work for a market research company with a call center. All the calls come in to me and I have to direct them to the correct recruiter. I can not let them go to voicemail. I also have to greet clients and check in the participants of the groups. So basically I am glued to my chair from the time I get there till the time I leave. I can get somebody to answer the phone while I go to the restroom for 2 min. thank goodness. I am sure my co-workers will be able to help me somehow once I HAVE to take time to eat. It will all work out. Thanks, Kym Re: Stuck food Just wondering, perhaps Kym is self-employed? Then perhaps she cannot afford to give herself a lunch break. But I do understand the idea about working for a small company. However, it's too bad that you cannot afford to use an answering machine to listen to incoming callers, at least until you have a chance to finish the bite of food you're chewing. After all, the new eating habits will affect your success in this journey of weight loss after WLS. I just hope you can find a solution to this situation, Kym. I wish you the greatest success in this. :-) Sandi H.
