Motilium

I took this medicine for a while and it really got me through a bad time with my

GI tract. I had delayed gastric emptying as well as GERD and constipation.

Motilium was a miracle drug for me! I had to get it from Canada since it is not

approved in the US--at least it wasn't when i took it--don't know about now.

Once I was doing better I was able to stop it but I have considered going back

on it as my problems are acting up again. It's been awhile--probably three

years since I took it. The only reason I hesitate taking it is that I think it

made my breasts get very big (it is used to produce milk for woman who have just

given birth but can't breast-feed due to lack of milk). I didn't start

lactating but my breasts got very big; however, prednisone definitely put weight

on me so who knows how much was from what drug.

I hope my answer helped!

Carol, thank you so much! Your reply makes me feel alot better. The drug is

still not available in the US....I think my son-in-law ordered 5 months worth

from Canada. He was able to buy 600 pills for $80!! My daughter lives in

Phoenix, and we're in Columbus, Ohio so we do alot of calling back and forth.

Your condition sounds very similiar to hers....her stomach is not emptying, and

she has pain and nausea. This Wednesday, they are having her swallow the pill

with the camera and have told her they will have to force it thru her stomach.

Then on Friday, they have her consulting a surgeon to see if she needs surgery.

We sure hope not! They just put her on presnidsone a week ago, so again, she

sounds similiar to you. Again, thank you so much for making this mom feel

better about this med!!!

Glad to be of help! When I first started on Motilium it was SO expensive. It

has come down in price. At one point I got it from Mexico but I got sick on

them--quality was bad!

Prior to taking Motilium I had a lot of pain and nausea too. The swallowing

camera wasn't available when I was so sick. Prio to taking Pred and motilium I

was underweight and had to watch everything I ate. Now I am overweight but can

enjoy a lot more food :) Of course, the prednisone is what really did me in.

Please tell your daughter to be careful with the prednisone. It can be a life

saver, but it can also have long -term effects. Whenever I try to go off of it,

I do into secondary adrenal insufficiency. I've been on it for 11 years, but

not at high doses. As for motilium I was on a high of 80 mgs but was able to

slowly go down over a three year period and go off of it. I never tried reglan

because I felt the side effects were worse.

I hope your daughter does well on the motilium! Let me know if you have any

other questions.

Carol, my daughter was diagnosed with scleroderma just this past summer. She

had it on the outside of one arm and shortly after, it jumped onto the other

arm. She just saw the rheum. doc last week who was very pleased that her arms

were no worse, nor is it showing up anywhere else on the outside at this time.

The problem has been trying to find a proper diagnosis for her stomach. The

doctors have yet to say conclusively what is going on. They say some of it

looks like scleroderma and some of it does not and it's possible something

entirely different is going on. Both the rheum and the gastro docs believe they

need to be concentrating on the inside at this time. They've been trying

different meds and she was just put on the presnidsone 2 weeks ago. As you have

said, she knows she really has to watch it with the presnidsone re: how much she

eats! You had mentioned you were considering retaking the motilium for your

stomach. Sorry your stomach is starting to act up again. I hope you start

feeling better real soon and again, thanks so much!!
