HI Lesa

good to know you can eat salad, i know the focus is protein first and water.,but a salad sometimes is just so good, i hear a lot of people say their tastes change after surgery, I have wondered if i will stil enjoy salad

I agree with Martha…a tablespoon of food at a time was really just for the first few weeks after surgery. After a month or two, I could handle about a quarter cup or so of something like cottage cheese or yogurt, but even more so on salad (I’m almost 4 months post op now and I eat about a cup of mixed green salad at a time with no problem.) BTW, 1 piece of sushi is my limit! : - )

Shirley: Tablespoon!?

I know they tell you postops to expect to fill up with a tablespoon. Iguess that was true for me... at first. I went out and had 2 pieces ofsashimi 2 weeks postop, BEFORE I was released to solid food, because Iwas STARVIN'. The sashimi filled me right up. But soon I was able to eatabout a quarter-cup of stuff. So a tablespoon MIGHT be exaggerating yourteensy-weensy-ness just a bit!And remember, you won't starve. It takes weeks and weeks to starvesomeone. You have

lots of protein and calcium stored up in those bigAmerican bodies. Your liver has lots of iron reserves. Your hair willfall out anyway, no matter what you eat, and I guarantee it will growback, no matter what you eat. I've seen hundreds of cancer patients doit after chemo-- yours will too. So take it easy. Don't worry too much about getting in all the frickin'vitamins and water right away. After about a year I had no problem withany of that. You'll be fine, it just takes time.LoveMartha

Hi Colleen, yes I really enjoy salad, too.

It was about a month after surgery before the doctor cleared me to eat it and I

was soooo happy!

I know they tell you postops to expect to fill up with

a tablespoon. I

guess that was true for me... at first. I went out

and had 2 pieces of

sashimi 2 weeks postop, BEFORE I was released to

solid food, because I

was STARVIN'. The sashimi filled me right up. But

soon I was able to eat

about a quarter-cup of stuff. So a tablespoon

MIGHT be exaggerating your

teensy-weensy-ness just a bit!

And remember, you won't starve. It takes weeks and

weeks to starve

someone. You have lots of protein and calcium

stored up in those big

American bodies. Your liver has lots of iron

reserves. Your hair will

fall out anyway, no matter what you eat, and I

guarantee it will grow

back, no matter what you eat. I've seen hundreds

of cancer patients do

it after chemo-- yours will too.

So take it easy. Don't worry too much about

I had no problem with

any of that. You'll be fine, it just takes time.
