Hey guys. A friend of mine has challenged me to ride across the

state of Oklahoma in one day this summer, and I'm pumped about it.

Does anyone know how I can train for this? Obviously, I can't take

the day to practice, lol. I was just wondering if anyone could give

me some info. Thanks!!!

Yes, - I cycle (not now though - I'll wait until the temperature

around

here reaches 50 degrees at least - LOL!!!!). Anyway, do you have an idea

of how many miles this will be and the type of terrain (I'm guessing OK is

fairly flat) --- this will influence your training plan. The farthest

I've ever rode in one day was 50 flat miles but I didn't train properly and

was in bad shape afterward. There are lots of training programs out

there for

half-century (50 Mile) and century (100 Mile) rides - generally, you

train for

10 weeks - with a mixture of long rides, shorter hard rides, and

" recovery " rides

each week - building up your mileage each week.... I'm going to be

training for

a half-century I want to do at the beginning of August - and I'm going

to loosely

follow one of these regimens. Here it is:

Week Mon Tues Wed Thurs Fri Sat Sun Total Weekly

Train Easy Pace Brisk Rest Pace Pace Pace Mileage

1 5.0 6.0 7.0 -

6.0 20.0 7.5 51.5

2 5.0 6.5 7.5 -

6.5 22.0 8.5 56.0

3 5.0 7.5 8.5 -

7.5 24.0 9.0 61.5

4 5.5 8.0 9.5 -

8.0 26.5 10.0 67.5

5 6.0 9.0 10.0 -

9.0 29.5 11.0 74.5

6 6.5 9.5 11.5 -

9.5 32.0 12.0 81.0

7 7.0 10.0 12.5 - 10.0

35.5 13.5 88.5

8 8.0 10.0 13.5 - 10.0

37.5 14.5 93.5

9 8.5 10.0 15.0 - 10.0

37.5 16.0 97.0

10 9.5 10.0 15.0 -

5.0 2.5 (Easy) 50.0 89.5

Diane Loupe, on this board, did a ride across Georgia last year (that

was multi-day) - so, she

might have some good advice.

Best,

Mitch

Thanks! I'm not sure how long the ride is. I think we're riding up

to the panhandle from OKC. Not sure. I'll let you know when I find

out!
