Guest guest
Those kind of fluctuations are normal in creatinine levels. If you chart them onto a piece of graph paper you will see that the line is pretty straight. When they start to inch up every time is more of a case for concern. Mine are ver similar to yours, but a point higher and I am not worried. Guest guest
, The proteinuria decreasing is a very good thing (you are probably taking an ACE inhibitor or steroid, the former of which accounts for the K increase). Next, Cr is a product of muscular metabolism, and as the amount of muscle in one's system is approximately constant, it has been chosen historically as a marker of kidney function. Your creatinine (Cr) (as opposed to clearance) is a measured quantity that changes not only with your absolute kidney function but your physiological state...blood pressure (affects kidney function); hydration state (how much fluid you drank in the few hours before the blood draw); how swollen your legs may be; anything that can change the concentration of this material in your blood relative to the water in the matrix. In addition, when you have the draws each day can make a difference. [in my case I always have them in the 2 - 4 pm range, as this is most convenient from my office, but I don't think such regularity is all that important, just convenient for me] Further, a heavy exercise session on the morning of a lab draw can have an affect not only on Cr but your hydration state as well, changing that number fairly significantly. All of the above variables and many more are the reason Cr clearances are calculated on the basis of a 24 hr urine collection...under the theory that averaging the above affects for 24 hours is sufficient for a " decent, " reading. The bottom line is ranges reported on your lab reports ARE ranges because measuring a healthy state between an unhealthy one is a fairly fuzzy line...what's ok for me could well not be good for you. Further the body is an incredibly dynamic organism, changing moment by moment. Over the course of time you will develop a sense of your general kidney health, and the trend for this, as you track both your Cr clearances from 24 hour urine events (which will likely be fairly rare, no one likes the jug experience) vs just Cr measurements of blood. If stable, more or less, you are in the happy place. If Cr continues to rise over weeks, months, and years, of course that news is not as pleasant. I hope this long-winded response is useful. Take care of yourself ! results and questions I just got my test results back from my neph. My protein has dropped alot in my 24 hr urine, but my creatinine is up to 2.2 with a clearance of 39. Guest guest
Hi , It is good that your protein has dropped because that can help to protect your renal function. That means you seem to be responding to the Cellcept which is a good thing. Rita also had a good response to it. I am glad you are responding to the Procrit too. Just getting your hematocrit up can make a big difference in how you feel too as far as the amount of energy you have. Your variations in your creatinine may be just associated with how hydrated you are too. Make sure you are staying well hydrated. It sounds to me like your Neph is staying very well on top of things for you. Just give the Cellcept time to do its thing. Guest guest
I am currently only on...Avapro for my blood pressure which has been wonderful and normal for 3 months now, Lipitor which has made my cholesteral good, Cellcept 500 2 times a day and procrit shots every 2 weeks. My anemia is just starting to get better. this is the first labs I have gotten back where potassium has been high(and only slightly)..I just don't know how long it takes for things to get stable. I have only twice had swelling of my feet..( which is when I went to the doc and found all this out) that was 2 months ago. Other than feeling tired on occaision, I feel healthy and normal and sometimes forget there is something wrong with my kidneys. I have changed my diet and haven't had a coke or red meat in 3 months now. I have been watching my sodium intake and read all lables now too. Eating mostly chicken and fish. I upset myself when I play with the GFR calculators and it tells me I went from 48 to 27 in 2 months....Should my neph be doing somethng else for me or is this how things play out til it gets under control? Thanks..
