Hi Cher,

Great advice. It's actually great advice in general, but especially so for

anyone having surgery. Smoking does so much to compromise our ability to

recover.

I'm glad to hear that got scheduled - even though it is as far out

as October. At least, by then, he should be in great shape for surgery -

cleaner lungs, a bit less fat around his liver if he loses some more weight,

and so on - all will help with a full and speedy recovery. I strongly recommend

that he start building up his lung power with deep breathing exercises (I

used a spirometer). Going under general anesthetic affects our lungs and

the stronger they are to begin with, the faster they'll recover. I think

that building up lung power might be especially important to an ex-smoker.

So . . . is excited about being scheduled? How's he handling the lack

of cigarettes?

Thanks for letting us know how things are going for . He is lucky to

have a wife doing such a good job of looking out for him.

All the best,

Kay

Well, we left this morning at

about 6:30 or so and we found ourselves sitting there for nearly a hour and

a half.. The traffic was badddd but I love the car pool lane !!! Great news

the surgeon said that she would have schedualed for this month but...

He's a smoker and she wants his lungs CLEAN.. Also she says there is no 10%

and since he has lost 40lbs in the last three months that she just wants

him to loose a little more weight for him to have a Lap.. So she has him

set for October !!! They are booked up for Aug and Sept.

If

you smoke stop now .....

Hi Cheryl....

I quit smoking in 1983 with accupuncture from a doctor named Hee Wook

Jung in Fremont. It cost me $40 for the treatments and it was the

best $40 I ever spent on smoking. I don't know if this would be an

option for but I do know that I've reccommended this to a heck

of a lot of people since 1983 and to the best of my knowledge they

all quit. The one that sticks in my mind the most is a fella named

Ron who smoked five (yes 5) packs a day. Ron went to see Dr. Jung

and Hasn't smoked since. By the way....I was smokmiong three packs

of cools a day when I had my treatment and the dardest thing about it

is that I never had any more cravings so it made it really easy to

stay smoke free long enough for it to stick.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gordy,

I will mention this to my and his Grandma.. See he doesn't

believe in hypnotherapy and acupuncture he is a very stubborn man :)..

His grandmother on the other hand has tried so many things and I will

mention Dr. Wook to her .. She is desperately trying to quit, if this

works for her maybe will try..

Thanks so much and have a great Sunday..

Hi Cheryl:

I too quit smoking on doctor's orders prior to a non WLS surgery in 1999. I had smoked two packs a day from the age of 12. (about 25 years). I set a date two weeks prior to my surgery (they were the hardest)and simply held the thought that I could always start again after I healed (the surgery was on my jaw(broken)-wired shut- still didn't lose weight :S )well I never started back and haven't smoked since. I think maybe all the head stuff gets in our way sometimes, since I never started the head stuff I never went back~ wish I could do the same with food. Good luck to you both.
