pre-op plateau!!

Hi all,

I'm so frustrated! I have been at 297 since the end of February and I

have to be at 283 for surgery. I work out 4-6times a week. I eat the

right things. I have even increased my workout intensity.

Nothing..Zip GRRRRR!

Anyone else had this problem? Anyone got suggestions?

The good news is I am off diabetes meds now. :-)

Hi Kerre,

That has got to be aggravating!

Have you tried altering your exercise routine - not increasing its

intensity, but actually changing what you do? I have read and heard

over and over again that changing your exercise will help get you off a

plateau.

Also, have you kept a food diary and run the numbers (calories, protein,

etc.) on what you eat? FitDay or some other similar program will do the

numbers for you.

Great news that you are off the diabetes meds. I know that having to

take insulin can make it very, very difficult for folks to lose weight.

Is it the same with your diabetes meds? How long have you been off

them? Could they have been part of the problem?

Please, don't get discouraged. You have a lot of good to look forward to.

Thanks for the encouragement Kay.

Yes, I use Fitday and I am very good with my caloric intake. I go to

Curves and I just got a couple of workout DVD's from the library to

check out... polaties (or however its spelled) for weight loss and

Yoga for weight loss. I went in to see the nutritionalist at the end

of last month with my Fitday print-outs. She said to increase my

workout intensity. But I think you're right about changing the

routine too.

This may just be the most frustrating part of the process.Losing the

10% is so hard. Please keeping doing all you can and i'm sure you

will be fine!

Hi Kerre,

I thought I would never get the weight off either for surgery. Now I am 2 pounds below what I need to be, thank goodness. I feel so much better too, already! My best loss came when I would drink a protein shake for breakfast and dinner and eat a low carb meal for lunch, and get all my water in that day. I didn't do this all the time, the rest of the time I ate mostly protein. I only lost an average of 2 lbs a week and I would go for 2 weeks with no loss at times, but it finally paid off. My surgery is June 28th at Richmond. Good luck, don't give up!
