HI Anne,

Sone time ago a very helpful member posted a detailed not on how to go about the appeal process. I looked for the note, but since I have been approved, I deleted it. I'm hoping whoever they were will see your note and repost the process for you.

I'll be praying your appeal gets approved.

Hi, I'm sorry but I was informed that I never gave my name in my last posting. It's Anne. I'm not much of a computer whiz and chat rooms are new to me. I was given info about the site from my nutritionist at Kaiser. We agree I need the surgery, but I have to go through a grievance process because the initial referral was denied. She told me people on this site have been through the same thing and might be able to help. I'm looking forward to being further along in the process so I can be able to chat about having the surgery, rather than trying to get the surgery. From what I've read, everybody seems very satisfied amongst the group. My husband and I have been discussing this for quite a while, and we feel it may save our lives. Hopefully further posts will be about a future surgey date. Thanks for your help ahead of

time. Anne

Hi Anne,

Don't worry about not being a computer whiz or chat room savvy. I

consider myself about one step above computer illiterate. We like to

know folks' names because it just seems friendlier to address them that

way.

Also, please don't wait until you are further along to join in. Having

decided to research or seek this surgery means you are already involved

in the process. We are interested in how you are doing. Also, it would

be nice to hear how your husband is doing.

If you don't mind my asking - what is your BMI? Kaiser's guidelines are

higher than those of the National Institute of Health - however, as long

as you fall within the NIH criteria, you can almost certainly get Kaiser

to approve the surgery.

I look forward to getting to know you better.

All the best,

Kay

Welcome, Anne. As someone said, your messages are arriving

successfully. Don't let the blue " Chat " link on the left confuse

you. This is a " board " to which all members " post " simply by

clicking on " Reply " --as you have successfully done. After

you " Reply " you can " Preview " your response to read your message

before it goes to the board. " Chat " is used only when a number of

members are online simultaneously and they want to get into a rapid

back and forth " conversation " that excludes all members who are not

online at that moment. 99% of your correspondence will be in the

form of posts--a reply may not be instantaneous, but the replies will

come as members get around to reading all the posts.

BTW, I am pre-op also. I've been approved by my PCP, but am awaiting

the next level of Kaiser approval. I live in southern California

(Orange County), and the procedure is very different here than in

northern CA (and elsewhere). I think it is primarily because Kaiser

doctors do not do the surgery down here yet, so a patient is

contracted out to a non-Kaiser facility. Once Kaiser agrees to pay,

then the other facility starts putting you through their hoops! It's

good to get used to the fact that this is a long, slow process--lots

of patience is required. But, this group will help you all along the

way, so keep writing!
