Guest guest
Welcome, Gordy! My PCP submitted my paperwork, but I didn't get the final approval from Kaiser until I had completed the nutritional class and the psychologist evaluation. I would imagine that it varies from region to region. Don't worry about being 53 -- I know of people who have had surgery at that age and beyond (up to the low 60's). I think age is not a factor legally, so if you get denied because of age you can appeal through Kaiser and then later through the Department of Managed Healthcare. Nice to have you here, Laurie W. The New Guy Hi everybody....My name is Gordy and I'm just starting out on the road to WLS. I had my nutrition eval last week and see the shrink on June 15th. Does my PCP submit the paperwork to the committee before or after these mandatory meetings ? Also, I'm 53 and my PCP mentioned that he's not sure if I'll be able to qualify because of my age. any thoughts?my BMI is about 47. I have high cholesterol and back and hip pain, (sciatica and arthritis.)Looking forward to being part of the "Group"Gordy
Guest guest
My Aunt had the surgery last July and she is 63. She did great and as far as I know all the people in Richmond were very impressed with her. I think she did better than I did the day after. Also when I was down for my surgery there was another woman there who was at least 60. So don't give up! J'net > Hi everybody.... > > My name is Gordy and I'm just starting out on the road to WLS. Guest guest
Gordy, Welcome to the group! I am 53 and had co-morbids of sciatia and high blood pressure. They called sciatia something else though, can't remember what is was. I think Kaiser's guidline for age is around 60. Your PCP will send in paperwork after the pschy appt. Good luck on your journey. Guest guest
Hi gordy, Welcome!!! I hope you find our group to be supportive and informative. It has been an immese help to me. If memory serves me right, my PCP submitted the paperwork after the nutritionist and the shrink did their bits. As far as your age is concerned . . . well, I don't know if Kaiser has an age limit for this surgery, but I was 53 (very nearly 54) when I had mine. I look forward to getting to know you. Take care, Kay open RNY 12/1/03 onefshnfool wrote: > Hi everybody.... > > My name is Gordy and I'm just starting out on the road to WLS.
