Hi! I'm another newbie!

Hi all, my name is Therese, and I'm 48 years old. I was diagnosed by office core needle biopsy with invasive lobular carcinoma on March 23rd, two days after my birthday. We (my husband and I) celebrated our 11th anniversary yesterday and today I had my hair clipped off and my wig styled. That was kind of sad and emotional! I actually felt the mass last summer but my mammograms were negative, but finally had an ultrasound on March 24th which showed a very suspicious mass. I will be having my second round of chemo this Monday (adriamycin and cytoxan), and I have a port in my left upper chest. We've decided to go with a conservative approach. I'm having chemo first because my tumor is too large (3.6 mm) for my doctor to comfortably perform a lumpectomy with clear margins. So, I'm having chemo first, then hopefully a lumpectomy, and then finaly radiation and a year after that a breast lift on my opposite side. Anyway, I've been reading a lot of posts and decided to finally jump out here in the open! My surgeon, who is a woman, strongly suggested I purchase Dr. Love's Breast book, which I did, and I have noticed that many of the questions asked on the board are answered in this book, and I see the board just mention it in the links. I'm a little nervous about my second treatment of chemo. The first wasn't too bad. I got just a bit nauseated at first (they have me on Zofran and Compazine) and I got a sore throat days 7, 8, and 9, but that was about it. I heard all of the symptoms are cumulative though. So far I'm still working full-time, maintaing the house and laundry and cooking. Anyway, that's my story, and I'm glad to be here. I like to read, knit, fish, and go boating among other things, and ride on my husband's Harley. Thanks for letting me introduce myself.....Therese in Ohio

Thanks and nne,

Well I feel great right now, but the second chemo treatment on Monday

is certainly to change things a bit. So, I'm glad I have all of you to

dump on if things get rough, since everyone here should understand!

Have a great weekend all!

So much for those darn Mammograms! I had the same experience. Showed

up on ultrasound but not mammogram. Only reason a ultrasound was done

was because I noticed a slight change in the nipple.

Hi Teresina,

That's a pretty name! I live in Ohio. Good luck with your treatment! I go for #2 tomorrow. My sister-in-law mailed me a DVD player, so I am going to take that and my knitting along to pass the time. She even included two movies! I think I'll watch 13 going on 30, as my husband would NEVER watch that one!

Speaking of husbands, does anyone have a husband like mine, who is of course concerned, but not exactly supportive? He just called and wants us to attend a fish fry at the marina next Saturday and go fishing. Right now I can only plan things a day at a time. I heard chemo gets a bit harder after the second treatment. I guess everyone is different though!! I'm going to take a Zofran tonight before I go to bed. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!!

Nice to meet you, Teresina and everyone! I only chose ONE support group, and I think I picked the right one!. Kudos to nne!!:)Therese

Mine was confirmed with an ultrasound too...the suspicious spot on the mammogram turned out to be nothing. I found the lump myself and asked for it to be investigated.

Hello Therese, I am welcoming you to our group. I had invasive ductal carcinoma 1.5 lumpectomy and radiation. I was surprized to read how large the tumor was and not showing in the mammogram. I have heard of chemo first to shrink the tumor then surgery. This is a great site-Lots of women with survivor years and chemo treatment. Please keep us posted-ask questions. I am 54 mother of three. Welcome TW and you have such a beautiful name. Also welcome to

Therese.......it's good to have you with us. I'm sure there are

books that deal with all the problems we are discussing, but the

closeness and cameraderie we have here is the greatest weapon I

think we have.

My chemo is over now. I had CMF which is Cytosin, Methotrexate, and

5 FU. I had two aggressive type invasive ductal carcinoma. The two

lumps were a total of 1.2. I had the lumpectomy and they got clear

margins. The sentinel node was taken and it was o.k. So I am a

Stage I survivor. I still have to take my radiation, but basically

I don't have any cancer evident.

Take care. I hope the waiting doesn't get to you too badly. It

seems it goes so slow at times when you are waiting to find out

more. That is a bad time for most of us. Hope not for you.

Hugs,

Janet in Washington state
