Hm, okay.

All right, everyone, pop quiz: If you get two different point

calculations from two different sources for the same food, one higher than

the other, which one do you go with? The lower or the higher?

I usually go with the lower. :-D What's a good rule of thumb here?

And I thought chicken was generally 1 point per ounce, and that teriyaki

sauce was free?

That helps a lot. I'm learning that I really shouldn't be trusting my

" sixth sense " right now, not when I've been so bad at measuring and

estimating points.

Teriyaki sauce is 1 point per 1/4 cup. For your 6 oz. chicken, you get 6

points for

the chicken - depending upon how much sauce was used, add the appropriate

points and if there was any other ingredients used in preperation, add

those in.

The Food Companion, says 4 oz. of Teriyaki Chicken = 6 points, so 6

oz.=9 points.

If only 1/4 cup of Teriyaki sauce was used, you'd think it would be 7

points, so

I'm not sure where they're getting the additional 2 points from. BTW,

Teriyaki

sauce is free only if you use a very small amount (e.g. 1 Tbsp.)

To answer your more general question, I always go first by the product

label (if

available), then by the food companion or the dining out companion. If

the food

isn't in there, I'll go by Dottie's website or by the calculations at

Calorieking.com.

If I still can't find it, I'll do a google search for nutritional info

on the food. If all

else fails, I make an educated guess. There are rare occasions where

something

that's in the book or the websites don't match up with my " sixth sense "

of what

the food " should be " . That's when I'll seek out multiple sources and

average the

result.

You look at the nutrition information. The one that says one cup of rice

is 12 points is clearly wrong. One cup of rice is NOT 600+ calories!
