Guest guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 This is what I have been told...if you lose 50% you are a winner!!! That means if you weighed 360# and your in range weight is 150# if you lose 105# you are a winner...however, I know you would like to lose more than 50%...that is where you have to make sure YOU are doing what YOUR doctor has told you to do...stay on the plan...do not get off of the plan. It is very important that you follow your doctors glidelines!!! If I would have been better at it...these last 20+# would be long gone!!!! But, I am a hard head....when I got close to my goal...well, like every time I get close to my goal...I start thinking...and thinking I can do it on my own is not what I should be thinking...other wise, I would have never had to go to such extreme measures...now, would I? Ha. I feel that everyone can reach their goal...some may have to work harder than others...but I know that if you do as you are told....eat what you are suppose to...stay away from those foods that you should stay away from...YOU WILL BE A WINNER in no time.... I am going to lose this last bit of weight!!!! I give myself before the year is over...the weight will have been off and I will be in maintenance for life!!!! I can hardly weight...what am I going to do??? Well, for one...be more faithful with my workout progrom...the other is to stop cheating with junk food...I SO KNOW BETTER!!!! I am going to pray more...every day...not just once or twice a day...but throughout the whole day!!!!!! There is power in prayer...and I am going to start writing everything down again!!!! gym is 5 cal....and I am going to count it!!!! Good luck and I know you will be a great WINNER!!!! P.S. That is with the Lap Band....I think the gastric has greater % rates??? YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Have the Faith... :-) ~ > > Hi I'm very seriously considering WLS. I'm 360lbs, 5'11 " and 35years > old... Guest guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Welcome ! My surgeon told me at consultation that most patients lose up to 70% Of their weight.BUT all DRS are different with different ways & instruction.Good Luck! Guest guest Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 , I assume you're male. I am too. I'm 38 so about your age. I'm 6' tall (ok 5' 11 " with my shoes off, the runt of my Dutch family). So we're a lot a like. However, I was nearly 500 lbs when I decided to WLS last year. I'm now 328, but that was last week so it might be less (I don't weigh myself all that often), at six months. That's a loss of about 34% (wow I hadn't realized it was that much). That means at six months maybe you'd be at 240 or so. The problem with guessing how much you'd lose, how fast, etc. is that everyone is different, every surgeon/surgery is different too. Have you been to a surgeon's office yet? What do they say about your prospects? I've asked my surgeon's office staff about what my " goal " weight should be. If you look at those crazy BMI charts you and I are supposed to be about 180lbs. That seems emaciated to me. I've got very wide shoulders, long arms, Dutch heritage, etc. so I'm shooting for low 200s like maybe 220. I've still got a way to go but am working hard at it (could always do better/more). I would guess that those who have lost very little weight have not followed " da rulez " . You basically can't drink much/anything with calories in it. There's other rules too but that's a biggy. I never drank caloric drinks much so this wasn't a hardship for me. It helps to like foods heavy in protein. I just read a post here from someone who doesn't care for cottage cheese. I sometimes buy three tubs of fat free cottage cheese when it's on sale and have a cup or more for a snack. It's great stuff. Keep asking questions as this is a great group and we try to answer as best we can. Good luck with your decision(s)! Guest guest Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 From what my doctor told me is most people loose 70% of their body weight that is considered a success. From what I have seen most loose about 100 pounds in the first 6 months. It is definately a life style change. Each surgeon has different rules. Hope this helps. Guest guest Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Hi and Welcome. There is no formula or guaranteed weight loss. You are considered a WLS if you lose at least 65-70% of your excess weight within 18 months. Not everyone reaches goal weight or gets skinny. Our post op goal should be to be healthy and active with relief from pre op comorbidities like diabetes and high blood pressure, back aches etc. An average weight loss is about 100 pounds in 6-7 months for the average patient weight of 250-300 pounds. However, not everyone loses at the pace or the same rate. Your food choices, exercise routines, metabolism, physiology, age and overall health dictate the rate and amount of weight you will lose. Even if you follow the so-called rules, you will not lose the weight YOU want. You will lose the weight your body can burn. I barely eat, yet I must watch every crumb I put in my mouth because I am in menopause which causes weight gain. I work out and make healthy and very careful food choices to prevent weight regain. Good luck to you! Robyn Group Owner > > Hi I'm very seriously considering WLS. I'm 360lbs, 5'11 " and 35years > old... Guest guest Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 :go to calorie-count.com to keep track of everything......very cool website and its free! also adds a button and an eat meter to the top of your computer so you can see when or how close you are getting to your goal for the day! the eat meter is a cool visual aid. Guest guest Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 yeah Mike, another Dutch person here! We're all Dutch in my family as far back as we can go in the family tree. My daughter was born there, before we moved to the US! Sorry for getting off track, -good luck to you! Quote
Guest guest Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Thank you all, well, I'm very happy to see this group is very active. I'm still trying to get my ducks in a row so I can get the surgery (I'll pay myself as it's not covered by my insurance) and I'm really excited. I'm so tired of this lifestyle and I hope this will help me change it... --- dutchflowers70 wrote: > yeah Mike, another Dutch person here! Guest guest Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Hi . To answer your question, not much of anything in these lazy crazy days of summer. LOL Thanks for asking. Robyn > > What do you do Robyn??? > Quote
Guest guest Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 , to expand on my prior answer. I never reached goal weight and I was driving myself crazy dwelling on it. I am 50 years old and in menopause. I have accepted that I am 30 pounds overweight according to the charts. However, my goal is to avoid weight regain and maintain my current weight. I workout for a minimum of 90 minutes and perform a 1000 calorie burn workout and SWEAT! I am beginning my plastic surgeries for skin reduction and that will scuplt my body into the best it can be. Guest guest Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Hi Mike! Here is my workout I start my gym time with cardio and fat burning. To be effective you need to do a minimum of 20 minutes of cardio. To burn fat you must increase your exercise time to a minum of 40 minutes. Cardio-treadmill. To determine your maximum heart rate 220-your age [mine is 50]. My max rate is 170. 85% is 155 for me. I start with sprints. I start at 5 miles per hour at a 10 incline and jack it up to 15. That really gets my heart pumping. After 3 minutes I decrease to 4 MPH at level 7 and then up to level 10 and then level 8 and then level 12 and then back up to level 15. I burn 424 calories in 40 minutes with a 5 minute cool down. Elliptical- I workout at level 10 for 30 minutes and burn 394 calories. Stairmaster- 15-20 minutes at varying levels. 200 calorie burn. I rotate my workout to avoid becoming conditioned to the same routine. I also add the bike and upper torso machines and cut back on the stairmaster that day. Then I do weight training and resistance machines for one hour alternating the different muscle groups [arms, legs, ahoulders and back, torso] on each workout day. I do not count the calorie burn from weight training since my goal is toning. Trust me when I tell you I SWEAT!!! That means my metabolism is fired up and I am getting the benefit of my workout!!! Have I lost scale weight? Not really. But I have lost 2 inches off my waistline and I am avoiding weight regain as I suffer through the hormonal chaos of menopause. And the exercise does help my depression and mood swings. Good luck to you. Robyn > > " and perform a 1000 calorie burn workout and SWEAT! " > > Robyn, > What is this workout?
